Munich / Cernobbio. With a passion for elegant bodies and timelessly beautiful design, the most exclusive edition to date of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este will take place in Cernobbio on Lake Como from October 01st to 03rd, 2021. For organizational reasons and due to the attendance restrictions imposed by the anti-Covid regulations, the public event in the park of Villa Erba and the Concorso di Motociclette is canceled this year. Jeff Koons gives first insights into his project with BMW as part of a closed room presentation of THE 8 X JEFF KOONS, his limited edition M850i xDrive Gran Coupé. As the embodiment of precision, sophistication and craftsmanship, the result of this collaboration fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the Renaissance residence on Lake Como. Together with the Head of BMW Group Design, Adrian van Hooydonk, Jeff Koons will talk about the connection between art and mobility, inspiration and creativity and their cooperation.
The presidency of the Concorso d`Eleganza Villa d´Este this year will be taken over by the head of BMW Group Classic, Helmut Käs, from Ulrich Knieps, who had a decisive influence on the prestigious event from 2014 to 2020 and will be there again this year. On site for this edition of the Concorso d´Eleganza, almost 50 exclusively selected, historic vehicles in eight classes will be presented, the concise titles of which sharpen the eye for the most exciting and attractive interpretations in automotive history:
- Class A - Twentieth Century Style: From Touring Torpedo to Racy Roadster
- class B - Developing the Theme: Space, Pace and Grace
- Class C - Showroom Showdown: Britain and Germany Battle for Luxury Supremacy
- Class D - Granturismo all'Italiana: Finding the Perfect GT Formula
- Class E. - Big Band 40s to Awesome ´80s: Five Decades of Endurance Racing
- Class F - A Passion for Perfection: Celebrating 90 Years of Pininfarina
- Class G - The Birth of the Supercar: Latin Style Landmarks
- Class H - The Next Generation: Hypercars of the 1990s
And with the participating concept cars and prototypes, five visionary one-offs will be competing directly against each other for the only time in the world. At this year's Concorso d´Eleganza Villa d´Este, the BMW Group is also showing a groundbreaking concept for sustainable urban mobility: the BMW i Vision Circular. The vision vehicle is consistently designed according to the principles of the circular economy and aims to achieve a quota of 100 percent recycled materials and 100 percent recyclability. The BMW Group aims to be the most successful and most sustainable premium manufacturer for individual mobility. That is why the company takes on responsibility and puts these issues at the center of its focus. The BMW i Vision Circular also shows that a premium requirement does not have to contradict sustainability.
Rolls-Royce Boat Tail debut
The worldwide debut of the Rolls Royce Boat Tail in the mosaic garden of the Villa d'Este, the first highlight of a four-year coachbuilding project with three special Rolls-Royce customers, for each of whom a highly personalized automobile has been designed. The 5,80 m long convertible from the coachbuilding division of the British luxury brand, with its long stern in a yacht design, is the perfect companion for the journey along the dreamy, curved shoreline of Lake Como.
The program of the Concorso d´Eleganza will again this year be shaped by the exhibition of the participating vehicles, the aesthetics of their forms and the crowning of the most elegant and technically excellent winners of the beauty contest by the jury. The winners of the Coppa d´Oro Villa d´Este will be chosen on Saturday and the winners of the different vehicle classes, the Concorso d`Eleganza Design Awards and the best-of-show award for the overall winner of all classes will be chosen on Sunday.
