Conversion to an electric car for € 7.130 - Swindon makes it possible!

Anyone who has been looking for a cheap option for a long time is to equip a quad, a small car, a delivery van, the popular classic car in the garage or maybe a self-built project vehicle with an electric drive Crate engine electric motor from Swindon Powertrains may be just the thing. It is an electric drive train that was developed together with partners such as the electric motor manufacturer iNetic as an HPD project. Intended for self-installation, it should turn the classic combustion engine into a hybrid or a pure electric car. The company, which is actually responsible for racing motors that are also used in the British Touring Car Championship BTCC, showed at the beginning of the year that they are also very familiar with electric motors.

Plug and play solution

Back then, an old Mini had been converted to electric drive and now the system used there should be available for everyone and almost every vehicle to buy. The system brings the electric drive train, the electric motor, an inverter and a single-stage gearbox as well as the necessary cooling system in one housing as a plug-and-play solution. At only 441 x 384 x 228 millimeters and weighing less than 50 kilograms, the dimensions are extremely compact and suitable for almost all vehicles. The installation should be carried out using specified fastening points and the inverter and the cooling package can be flexibly positioned in the vehicle. Like the Mini mentioned, the plug-and-play solution from Swindon Powertrains has an output of 80 kW (109 hp) and a maximum of 136 Nm of torque.

sufficient for light vehicles

Of course, these are not key data for a super sports car, but for a light competition vehicle, a practical transporter or a classic car such as the Mini or the VW Beetle it is quite sufficient and sometimes stronger than the series. After all, a VW Beetle was usually only around 30 HP strong and the classic Mini Cooper was not necessarily stronger with 34 HP. And if the engine is used in combination with a classic combustion engine, it is a highly modern way of increasing performance. Only the energy supply is not included in the scope of delivery. The battery pack including charging accessories must be purchased separately. The cost of the electric motor with reduction gear, converted, is around 7.145 euros (net).
