Washing the car in the garage? Rinseless wash according to the Garry Dean method!

The "rinseless wash" method is a special alternative to the conventional car wash, because in this case the entire car without rinsing (rinseless) and cleaned with extremely little water. What has long been a huge trend in the USA is also becoming more and more popular in this country. In the meantime, every major manufacturer of car care products has a product for this in their range and even professional detailers are often convinced of the car wash. But, who is actually the founder and what is the method? Garry Dean is a US editor living in Florida who has been in the business for years. From various market products, he created the method that is as scratch-free car wash without rinsing aims

What are the advantages?

For one, the laundry can basically all over be performed: at the side of the road, on the go, on vacation, in your own garage or in the driveway. Even if the car wash from the city was banned on your own doorstep. The advantage of washing is that you can basically do it anywhere. A special and expensive equipment like one Pressure Washer or a water/electricity connection not necessary. And when washing itself will never rub dirty water over the paint, such as using yourself with a thorough approach two buckets can happen. Another plus point is the high savings factor, because a car only costs approx 5 to 10 liters of water thats it!

Tip: a classic hand wash with a hose, two-bucket technique etc. can use up to 100 liters of water

However, as far as the "scratch-free" argument is concerned, it has to be said that scratches can hardly be avoided in the long run with all washes. Because every car wash in which the paint is treated mechanically with cloths, washing gloves, sponges or other cleaning utensils causes scratch! The only question is how many and how strong they are. Basically, all washing methods aim to reduce the risk of scratches to reduce.

Which accessories are required?

  1. Detergent for rinseless laundry (preferably with a pre-spray solution).
  2. Microfibre cloths in 60×40 or 40×40, with a weight of approx. 300 g/m² or more. (approx. 8 pieces are required for one vehicle)
  3. Comes per wash a drying towel to use.
  4. Two buckets with a capacity of at least 5 liters: one to soak the towels and a second to collect the used towels. (if necessary, 1 bucket is enough)
  5. A pressure sprayer. (is already available for less than 20 euros)

How does the cleaning work?

Polymers contained in the rinseless laundry solution encapsulate the dirt and make it more or less "round". As a result, he can effortlessly with the MF cloths be absorbed by the paint. MF cloths can absorb a lot of dirt and guide it inwards into the cloth. Because the liquid after some time though drying out, the vehicle is previously in sub-areas divided. As a result, will successively all steps for all sections of the vehicle repeated. Incidentally, the cleaning direction must always be from top to bottom be. The following classification has proven particularly useful:

  1. Roof, windscreen, rear window, side windows (incl. A, B and C pillars)
  2. Front: bonnet, fenders and front bumper
  3. Doors, side panels, side skirts
  4. Rear: tailgate, fenders, bumper
  5. finally the rims

Preparation Rinseless Wash according to the Garry Dean method:

First, the wash bucket with about 3 liters of water filled and according to the instructions with the Rinsless Wash quick cleanser (No Rinse product) mixed. Now the pressure sprayer is filled with approx. 2 caps (30 ml) to approx. 1,5 liters of water. A 5L sprayer takes about 3L of water and therefore about 4 caps Rinsless Wash quick cleanser (or pre-spray solution). After the microfiber towels have been folded twice to a quarter of their size, they can be soaked in the bucket. Tip: Depending on the manufacturer Rinsless Wash quick cleanser the corresponding mixing ratio varies, of course. So just read the instructions.

Step 1 - Rinse

Even if this method actually without rinsing, this step can be skipped in the case of particularly heavy soiling unfortunately not completely off the list. This can be the case, for example, after driving off-road, because of thick salt crusts in winter or with stubborn bird droppings. As with all vehicle washes (even with a dry wash/waterless wash), got to coarse dirt previously removed. Whether you rinse it off with the garden hose, from one Wash box makes use of or uses a pressure washer depends on your own preferences and circumstances. It may also be worth waiting for a rainy day so that you can save yourself the trouble of transporting the equipment to the washing area. Normally, however, you should be 90% without rinsing get along.

Step 2 - Pre-spray

After the sprayer has been inflated, first only a part pre-sprayed. However, this depends a little on the outside temperatures. Of course, the pre-spray solution dries faster on warm summer days than if you do the laundry in winter at around 0 to 10 degrees. Then you can spray several areas or the whole car at once without anything drying. Parts of the dirt are loosened in advance by pre-spraying (pre-solved) and encapsulated. In order to use little liquid and at the same time spray the vehicle parts particularly effectively, the spray tip should be set to fine spray be set.

Step 3 - Laundry

A folded microfiber cloth is now removed from the bucket. This is wrung out slightly so that it only drips off minimally and no water runs out directly. The MF cloth is placed on the palm of the hand so that a part of the area, such as the half of the roof, can be cleaned with the first side of the cloth. it is important do not apply pressure and wipe in strips. So not in circular movements. By putting the cloth over the varnish pushed becomes, it catches the dirt. Then it will turned. With the fresh and clean side, now the side windows and the first part of Windscreen cleaned. Then the cloth is unfolded and turned over and folded againto get two new clean quarters. These serve to cleanse the others roof side as the slices on the other hand.

Tip: is the component only very easy dirty, then, depending on your own requirements, the next area can be cleaned again with the same side of the cloth

Since the cloth is now full of dirt, it ends up in the washing machine later. Placing a second bucket or other container (maybe a box) for collecting the soiled cloths makes sense so that these don't fall on the ground and thus pick up more dirt and, in the worst case, small stones. Compared to the classic wash with two buckets, in this case it always comes a fresh cloth side for use. Water with dirt becomes as a result not pushed over the paint, which can still happen despite rinsed out washing gloves and with new shampoo water.

Tip: an even more intensive way to further reduce scratching of the surface: as described, remove the paint in strips with one cloth side each, but only with ultra-light pressure in the first pull. Then spray the component lightly again and wipe with another cloth.

Step 4 - Drying

The part that was washed can now be dried with the drying cloth. Here, too, simply proceed in long strips and do not wipe. the Rinsless Wash quick cleanser also serves as a drying aid. Since all the dirt hangs in the washcloths, the drying cloth should not dirty, just be wet. the Steps 2 through 4 are now used for the remaining sections of the vehicle repeated. The procedure is rounded off by cleaning the Rims. Now the car shines again in high gloss. The dirty cloths can be collected and after 2 to 3 washes there are enough for a washing machine load at 30 degrees whites. the Rinsless Wash quick cleanser also has the advantage that it depending on the manufacturer – Leaves a light polymer seal. If you wash your car regularly once a week, you can even do without wax.

The following note is essential: For safety reasons, tuningblog recommends all repair, inspection and maintenance work exclusively to be carried out in a specialist workshop! Although our information is summarized to the best of our knowledge and belief, we cannot assume any liability for the content. All information is therefore "without guarantee".

Of course, that wasn't the end of it!

In this tuningblog category there are guides and instructions for common defects/repairs on the vehicle and for installing accessories/tuning parts. Our articles explain in a simple way common defects and the corresponding repairs, as well as explaining how the first signs of a defect become noticeable. In most cases, we also have initial clues to the repair instructions in our repair instructions approximate The costs of the pending repair are listed. The goal of our subcategory “Auto Repair Guide“ is to create a head start in knowledge for the next visit to the workshop with initial tips. This may save you from tedious troubleshooting and small things can perhaps be done directly on your own. The same applies, of course, to the installation of accessories/tuning parts. Here, too, we would like to help with the implementation with instructions and tips. There are many other posts on this as well.
