Tuning doesn't stop at electric cars either!

There are more and more in Germany Electric Cars authorized. A E-car (BEV for short) to buy is trendy and an investment in the future. However, fully electric vehicles are not the only cars with electric drive. Mild, plug-in and full hybrids are also available and are increasingly being bought in Germany. So far, the tuning scene has not really been enthusiastic and still regards electric vehicles with suspicion. There is a lot of discussion about the performance and appearance of electric vehicles. Tuners are currently not very open to change. E-vehicles should, however not be met with suspicion, because the vehicles can also be tuned and can become a visual eye-catcher. And tuners can even bring their experience from internal combustion engine tuning to the table.

Popular electric cars

Tuning doesn't stop at electric cars either!

In 2019, the most popular electric cars were the BMW i3, the Tesla Model 3 and the tiny Renault Zoe. And Tesla electric vehicles in particular are modified frequently. Combustion tuning involves fine-tuning individual components. The tuning processes have been firmly established for a long time, but in some cases also apply to the electric car transferable. Not for one, of course Air Filter or Sports exhaust, but with regard to other things. With tuning using the example of a Tesla Model 3, we show how electric cars can be pimped and, for example, a so-called 3F tuning obtained.

3F tuning of Tesla Model 3 vehicles

Who from E-vehicle tuning speaks, he (still) has to admit that classic combustion engines like the 3-series BMW, the Opel Astra or the VW Golf More Electrically powered vehicles offer tuning options. The fact that the tuning of e-vehicles offers fewer possibilities, however, also has one Advantage. Internal combustion engines have more wearing parts than electric vehicles. Replacement, tuning or repair of the parts are therefore unnecessary. The maintenance and workshop costs can thus be reduced. The Tesla Model 3 - and actually all other electric cars Auch - offers three main tuning areas, the Chassis, foiling and Rims affect. 3F tuning (new chassis, new rims and a foiling) is also possible on the Tesla and on any other electric car.

Chassis replacement & sport springs

In the Tesla Model 3 Performance, for example, there is one KW Variant 3 coilover suspension or a sentence H&R sport springs on. When replacing the chassis, however, it must be noted that the all-wheel-drive model has an axle that is different from the rear-wheel drive version. Here a new fork was developed for the front axle, which is installed at the lower end of the damper. How low the vehicle should be in the end is not only regulated by the ground clearance on the front bumper, but also that Position of the front axle. The Model 3 Performance only has a low ground clearance in this area, so you should lower it do not exaggerate.

Tuning a Tesla Model 3 Performance

A visually subtle detail is the tuning of the rims. A Model 3 performance looks good BBS CI-R rims with stainless steel collision protection out. The stainless steel collision protection can even be exchanged for a variant of a different color. Red is interesting for the exchange because the sports brake system from Model 3 Performance has red painted saddles ex works. The wheel hub can also be equipped with special hub caps.

Misc Retrofit rims must of course be specially designed for the respective vehicle type. This also applies to the tires. For example, 245 / 35Z R20 tires are suitable for the front and the rear axle can be equipped with 275 / 30Z R20 tires. The rim dimension of 9,5 × 20 in on the rear axle (Offset ET40) and 8,5 × 20 in on the front axle (Offset ET 36) are ideal for tuning. Of course, other dimensions in 21 or even 22 inches are also possible.

Foiling as desired!

The color tuning can be done as desired. Tesla vehicles (or e-cars in general) are no other companions here and almost anything that pleases is possible. A foiling in Satin Dark Gray, in one matt blue but also in shiny red / white provides a great optical effect. who the Vollfolierung would like to complete, the chrome parts, which are often present in the factory, can be adapted with glossy black foil or with a carbon look. A body kit on Model 3 also looks particularly successful. Suppliers of body add-on parts for vehicles from Tesla are about Startech, Vivid Racing and Unplugged performance.
