The goal was set high, but Volkswagen has achieved it! As announced one had before with a modified VW Jetta (Type VII - since 2018) cracking the existing record of 335,5 km / h on the Bonneville salt lake and that worked. The Jetta successfully follows in the footsteps of the VW Beetle LSR (Country Speed Record) which three years ago achieved a distance of 2,0 km / h with a 328,195-liter turbo direct injection engine (TSI). The Jetta with the experienced Salt Flats driver Scott Goetz at the wheel was now 338,15 km / h (210,16 miles per hour) in this discipline, making it the “World of Speed” event of the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association (USFRA) set a new class record. The Jetta started with a modified version of the current 2,0-liter TSI engine and was developed by the Bonneville specialists THR Manufacturing based in Ventura, California.
