Valve exhaust systems not prohibited: but limited

Already have 2015 too we reported about it the flap exhaust systems as we know it maybe the end is threatening soon. The reason is a new regulation in the form of a regulation (EU) with the number 540/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 16, 2014. The new regulation provides for an amendment to Directive 2007/46 / EC and the repeal of the old 70 / 157 / EEC Directive. Yet the result is under no circumstances a ban on flap exhaust systems. While a so-called sound actuator (or sound generator, "Active Sound") really does is no longer registered and is prohibited a flap system can still be installed. For a sound generator, there is only the possibility of registration if it is an e-vehicle or if the part is installed from the factory. But even then strict guidelines apply. From now on, however, expert reports of such electronic accessory systems are invalid. Only already registered facilities enjoy a grandfathering protection and may continue to be used. Also, the retrofitting of exhaust systems with built-in sound generators on engines that are not intended for this purpose is prohibited.

Valve systems with restrictions

Damper systems with a variable geometry are not generally prohibited, but new, strict regulations also apply here. In older vehicles, there were previously only very simple noise regulations. The specified noise level only had to be adhered to in certain modes. Other situations were not checked and so the exhaust could be almost as loud outside of the tested driving conditions. That is different now. From now on, a flap system may only move within the originally tested driving conditions. This is also valid if the vehicle has been approved according to the old standard. If a car comes from the factory with a modified valve control or a sound generator, it is only approved if the car does not get louder as a result. A subsequently installed sports exhaust system / valve system must therefore have the same volume as the standard system.

That means: gChanged sound YES - louder NO.
