Anyone who has ever been due to a speed camera too high speed has been flashed, knows the associated feeling. Most people get angry in such a situation and sometimes let their emotions run free. One of them was a BMW X5 driver who drove “only” 289 km / h too fast on the B11 in the direction of Mainleus outside the village and was caught by a flash. Due to the situation, the man held his middle finger in the speed camera. The result of this hand gesture: A fine of 1.500 euros was due. But first back to the specific case: In April 2020, the 25-year-old man showed the speed camera his finger in Upper Franconia because he was photographed driving too fast. Instead of the mandatory 70 km / h, the young man drove 81 kilometers per hour.    - Insulting is a criminal offense. However, only a so-called application offense. If the offense exists and a criminal complaint is filed within 3 months, the proceedings begin.
2. What are the sanctions?
   - Since the new regulation of the point system there are no more points for insults in road traffic. Previously there were up to 5 points. The withdrawal of the driving license is usually NOT pronounced. Judge can, however, impose a temporary driving ban by means of a secondary penalty (see X5 driver from the article above).
3. Is there information in the catalog of fines to read?
   - There is information, but there is no fixed “table of fines” for insults in traffic. Each case is negotiated individually.
4. What do the different insults cost?

5. Is insulting on the road a criminal offense?
   - Yes, it's a crime. Section 185 of the Criminal Code (StGB). It can therefore be prosecuted if the person concerned files a criminal complaint!
6. What actually is the “official insult”?
   - In addition to insulting other road users, there is the case of insulting officials (but only popularly). This is the insult to public officials (police officers, customs officers, etc.). However, insulting officials is not a separate criminal offense. The penalty is just as high as if other road users were insulted.
