How long can you extend an appointment for the main inspection?

The main inspection of the vehicle (commercial cars, trucks, etc.) is the basic requirement for admission. With regular vehicle maintenance and inspection, one can be assured that the vehicle will remain safe and roadworthy. The main inspection date can be postponed for many reasons. However, many do not know how long the appointment for the main inspection can be overstayed. The HU is carried out every two years for all road-legal vehicles (except moped car, moped, moped etc.) and is important to ensure the safety of the vehicle. The main inspection (colloquially TÜV) should not be covered. If you exceed the deadline, you have to reckon with fines and legal consequences that quickly spoil the fun of driving. It is therefore advisable to carry out the general inspection in good time in order to avoid trouble with the police or fines. An appointment for the general inspection should not be overstayed any longer than necessary – unless there is an emergency. Inspection is an important part of your car's regular maintenance schedule. If you overstay the appointment for the general inspection, you run the risk of overlooking serious defects that could endanger your safety and that of your passengers.

• The number, which is above, marks the due month
• The number, which stands in the middle in a circlethat shows the due year.
• Both numbers together show that Due Date for the main investigation

If the HU is exceeded for cars and motorcycles, the following applies:

• HU extended by 2 to 4 months = 15 €
  HU extended by 4 to 8 months = 25 €
  HU extended by more than 8 months = 60 € and 1 point
• Violation of the regulations on the lights = 15 to 20 €
• Driving with impermissible mixed tires = 15 €
• Driving with a lower minimum tread depth = 60 € and 1 point
• Driving in spite of expired operating license = 90 € and 1 point
• Driving with a defective exhaust = 20 €
• Driving a trailer without wheel chocks = 5 €
• Driving despite serious deficiencies in brakes or steering = 90 € and 1 point
• Driving with wrong seasonal tires = 60 € and 1 point
• Driving without a valid HU = 80 € and 1 point
• Vehicle owner has authorized the journey = 70 € and 1 point

You may also have to pay more for repairs if you miss the roadworthiness test. Some testing centers allow you to postpone your appointment by up to two months without fear of a penalty. However, if you allow more than three months to elapse, you may face a penalty. However, such a postponement is only possible if the vehicle owner can provide appropriate justification. It is best to find out in good time to find out whether it is even possible to postpone the date. One should by no means extend the period of two months coverbecause then it will 20 percent more expensive!
