In Germany it is illegal to use speed camera apps on your cell phone or radar detectors while driving. That should be well known. However, a recent court ruling now makes it clear that this ban applies not only to the driver, but also to all other occupants in the vehicle is applicable. Speed camera app for passengers

In January 2022, the police stopped an elderly driver who was driving through Heidelberg too quickly and whose passenger had activated a radar warning app on her cell phone. The police then initiated proceedings against the driver and the District Court of Heidelberg decided to impose a fine of €100. The convict appealed, but Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court was rejected.
Prohibition also applies to passengers!
It has been clarified that the Road traffic regulations prohibits the use of speed camera apps or speed camera detectors for all occupants of the vehicle. The court ruling thus creates clarity and eliminates previous uncertainties regarding the use of speed camera apps in the car. So far it has been argued that the "driver the App yes not use, but one of the passengers". Clarity has now been added to this gray area with the verdict. Speed camera apps, radar warning devices and laser jammers are therefore rated in the same way!
