And continues the almost daily EU bullshit: After the EU has waved through the controversial copyright reform virtually without relevant adjustments, it's time again the motorist on the collar. On 26.03.2019, the European Commission has decided that every new vehicle from 2022 will be given an automatic tempo brake. There is also a data recorder to automatically record every offense in traffic. One could imagine that behind a point system is installed, the speed violations automatically detected, evaluated and later transmitted to the competent authorities. The glass car driver is perfect! The conditions apply to vehicles from May 2022 get a type approval and cars that are new from 2024. An EU decision states that these vehicles must be equipped with an Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) system.

A system that should prevent the driver from exceeding the prescribed maximum speed. The system is controlled by GPS in combination with a Road Sign recognition as we already know from current vehicles. If the driver exceeds the permissible maximum speed, the engine power is withdrawn from the vehicle, so that the speed is carefully reduced. The system should be easy to adapt to situations such as overtaking and should only reduce performance after a certain period of time. This is always accompanied by flashing and beeping warning signals. There are also plans for a kind of black box to record data in the event of an accident, there should be intelligent systems to protect against fatigue and distraction and the use of smartphones should also be monitored electronically.

Alcohol immobilizer should become mandatory

Info: EU adopts speed limit for new vehicles from 2022

As really useful, we consider the idea of an alcohol immobilizer that automatically recognizes the alcohol in the breath of the driver. And even lane departure warning systems or advanced emergency braking assistance systems should soon be mandatory in new cars and are probably not the worst idea. Nevertheless, for us it is all a step to smooth the transition to autonomous driving. Each own action is controlled more and more strict and privacy in the vehicle will probably soon be given. The only bright spot: With a high degree of probability, this will call up innumerable chiptuners who want to outsmart this system with technical solutions. And as consistently as the EU will wave it all off again, we hope that the development of appropriate countermeasures starts.
