Vehicle tuning and what you should consider!

Nowadays there are "almost" no limits to tuning. From the engine to the body to the interior and even accessories such as trailers, attachments and superstructures, everything can be changed. However, if you want to legally enter and continue to own a vehicle with a valid operating license, you should take the following tips to heart. Unfortunately, not everything that looks chic and makes you fast is allowed. Anyone who completely rebuilds their car or replaces large accessories with original ones must make sure that the driving ability and safety of the vehicle are not restricted in any way. If you have a tuning part with EC or ECE approval, you do not normally have to go to a test center, but the documents for the component should always remain in the car.

You can find information on the cultivation or certain requirements and restrictions in relation to the road approval in the parts certificate (TGA) or the general operating permit (ABE) or the general type approval (ABG). If your installation fulfills all the provisions of these documents, approval according to StVZO (§ 19) is problem-free. Should a separate acceptance by TÜV, Dekra etc. be necessary, this is indicated in the documents.

Chiptuning and all other types of tuning that significantly increase the engine performance of your car often result in the brakes and the chassis having to be adjusted. This can also apply to chip tuning. It is also important that every type of increase in performance is entered in the vehicle documents. If the engine tuning is responsible for a deterioration in exhaust gas and noise levels, the vehicle can be shut down. Especially in this case, the ABE or the parts certificate must be carried.

Anyone who changes the windows or the lighting of the vehicle should pay close attention to the StVZO regulations. A film for the windshield must, for example. have at least 75% light transmission. The rest at least 70%. If you are not sure, you should always leave the tuning to a professional. Every new component must comply with StVZO §19 and §22.
