Akrapovič has released its latest innovative product: the Rear Wing (Carbon) for the BMW M3 (G80) and M4 (G82) is the company's debut in the rear spoiler segment. Crafted from lightweight carbon, this wing has been designed and engineered with meticulous attention to detail, right down to the weave of the carbon fiber, which conforms to the same directional pattern as the optional carbon diffuser for the same vehicles. This perfectly handcrafted product is – like the Akrapovič diffuser – lacquered and hand-polished to achieve a flawless high-gloss finish and an impressive look. The wing is mounted on two gooseneck brackets made from lightweight CNC-machined aluminum. This material is particularly used in the aerospace industry as it offers the best weight/function ratio for this purpose.
adjustable rear wing
With the help of the FEM (finite element method), the optimal relationship between load capacity and weight of the wing brackets was determined. The adjustability in connection with high rigidity and strength was taken into account. For even better structural stability at the pivot points, high-quality titanium reinforcements have been incorporated into the wing. The use of titanium in conjunction with carbon improves resistance to galvanic corrosion, increasing the durability of the product while making it as light as possible. The screws that connect the wing and brackets are also made of high quality titanium.
derived from motorsport
The motorsport-derived wing was designed to achieve an extremely competitive downforce-to-drag ratio. There is also a small lip on the trailing edge of the wing. This so-called Gurney flap is intended to increase the angle of attack of the wing and thus generate more downforce without negatively affecting drag. The overall design has been optimized for the aerodynamics of the BMW M3 and M4, with the wing adapted to the lines of both vehicles. Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD) was an integral part of the development process to ensure the best possible functionality of the wing, with the aim of improving the car's stability at higher speeds by generating additional downforce on the rear axle.
there is no additional air turbulence
Particular attention was paid to ensure that the overall geometry of the wing does not create additional air turbulence at the rear of the vehicle and does not generate additional noise on the side of the vehicle. The wing is adjustable in three stages and must be manually adjusted to the desired angle before driving. The three settings offer more or less downforce depending on the rider's needs and riding conditions. The Rear Wing (Carbon) for the BMW M3 (G80) and M4 (G82) has an ABE with AKR-WI KBA 31882 type approval and features a subtle Akrapovič monochrome logo on each side.
