Tip: Replace the springs together with the shock absorbers!

Suspension springs wear out just like shock absorbers. But while worn shock absorbers are usually reliably detected by automotive professionals and replaced in good time, this is not always the case with springs. Worn out springs are a serious – and unnecessary – safety risk. After all, springs are also subject to constant wear and tear: on the one hand due to their natural weakness, on the other hand due to external influences such as stone chipping, cold or heat. And especially in winter, water and salt can put feathers to the test. "Salt water accelerates corrosion significantly", explains Sascha Decker, Regional Sales Manager at BILSTEIN: "Especially with some axle designs where the springs are in a veritable mud bath."

As a result, worn springs can quickly become a real safety risk. Namely, when the vehicle sways dangerously, contact with the road is lost and, in the worst case, the vehicle breaks out in curves and leaves the road. In the case of slack springs, it often happens that they bottom out due to the lack of spring tension. Sascha Decker therefore recommends replacing the springs at the same time when changing the shock absorbers: "At higher mileages, this makes perfect sense. Because a slack spring also puts much more strain on the shock absorber. Because the shock absorber is matched to an intact spring, it can only develop its full potential if the spring has full spring force."

"It's a win-win situation for drivers and workshops if the springs are changed together with the shock absorbers," reveals Sascha Decker. “In this way, car workshops can generate higher parts sales. The advantage for car drivers is that the work involved is significantly less than if the shock absorbers are changed first and then the springs later. Ultimately, this saves them real money.”

But the biggest advantage, according to Sascha Decker, is a significant increase in driving safety and comfort. Especially when you choose the high-quality BILSTEIN B3 series replacement spring in OE quality. As a successful original equipment manufacturer for well-known automobile manufacturers, BILSTEIN knows exactly what is important. With the BILSTEIN B3 series replacement spring, automotive professionals and end customers also benefit from another unbeatable advantage: "Our shock absorbers, springs and top mounts/top mounts are always optimally matched to each other," says Sascha Decker.
