Once again, an oil change is on, and again, one finds that this service has not become cheaper. But a routine job like changing the oil does not necessarily have to be done in the workshop. Even as a layman, it is no science to replace the old engine oil with new. We would like to show you how to extract the engine oil yourself (by means of oil suction pump) can and is firmly convinced that this type of oil change can be used for every other pass.

Vehicle: VW Phaeton V6 3.0 TDI

The following simple steps are necessary and we also tell you what you need:

  • Drive the engine a bit warm (oil becomes thinner and easier to pump off)
  • If possible, park the vehicle slightly downhill so that the oil can collect at the lowest point of the oil sump
  • Provide canisters for used oil
  • oil pump
  • 32er nut for the oil filter
  • Engine oil filter
  • new oil

The advantages of this method:

  • no lift is required
  • Minimal tool requirement as the sump protection does not have to be removed
  • extreme savings in engine oil change costs (less than 50% cost)
  • done in about 40 minutes (or less)
  • Branded oil as well as LongLife oil can be ordered cheaply online
  • a possible leak in the oil sump on the oil drain plug will be lost

the quiet part of the job, the pump is running

What to consider?

  • Dispose used oil filter in the waste collection center
  • Dispose of used oil in the recycling center
  • Only fill in the correct amount of engine oil for the vehicle (our car - 7,5l)
  • Tighten oil filter to specified torque

With one of these universal oil filter wrench tool Incidentally, you can easily remove almost any oil filter.

Nevertheless, we believe that it can not hurt to carry out the next oil change again in the classical way and thus also to open the oil drain plug. So you can be certain that the deposits in the groove of the drain plug also be removed.

Tip: This is how you properly dispose of used oil!
