Tried it: Use Android Auto wirelessly with AAWireless!

[Display] Anyone who owns a car from around 2016 to 2020 and an Android Auto display probably knows this: You have to constantly plug and unplug the phone to Android Auto to be able to use. But there is now a solution for that. The Dutch technology company AAWireless invented a solution back in 2019 that was launched on the Kickstarter platform Indiegogo became a great success.

What is AA Wireless?

AAWireless is the world's first adapter that connects the smartphone wireless connects to Android Auto (from Android version 11). You use Android Auto exactly as you are used to, but without the annoying cable. The device comes with a (free) companion app that allows you to regularly update the dongle and customize features of Android Auto (e.g. DPI changes for split screen etc.).

Made in Europe

During Black Friday in 2022, the popularity of AAWireless was particularly evident. Because within just 24 hours, the company ran out of stock worldwide and all devices were sold out. Thanks to a recent increase in production, the availability of the popular car gadgets but again significantly improved. Furthermore, at the end of 2022, the company managed to relocate the entire production from China to Europe in order to further improve the quality of the product. As far as we know, AAWireless is the only Android car adapter that is not made in China.

Update: The wireless Android Auto adapter is now also on Amazon Germany accessible. From now on for 83,99 euros via Amazon Germany.

The Story of AAWireless!

AAWireless has come a long way since the prototype was released in 2019. Since then, the Groningen (NL)-based company has continued to improve the compatibility of the device and in the process has also developed a significantly better version of the (free) companion app brought on the market. The functions of the device have remained unchanged. In other words, the particularly fast and easy way to connect wirelessly to Android Auto is still guaranteed.

As of June last year, AAWireless has completed the aforementioned Indiegogo campaign. With a complete newly launched web shop the company has expanded the sales network in the USA, Europe and Asia. With hundreds of thousands of devices shipped, AAWireless has managed to bring the Android Auto wireless experience to the masses in an affordable way, effectively upgrading legacy infotainment systems.

What is Android Auto?

Android Auto connects the Android phone to the infotainment in your car, so you can use your Android apps while driving. You can use functions such as navigation (e.g. Google Maps), traffic information (flash master), calls, texts and music (e.g. Spotify, YouTube Music etc.) via the car's screen. AAWireless is now over the official web store available at a price of approx. 110 euros.

Important details about AAWireless:

  • usable from Android update version 11
  • for most common Android smartphones
  • enables wireless Android Auto connection (similar to a streaming stick for televisions that make the TV smart via plug-and-play)
  • for infotainment with Android Auto, with USB cable
  • Connection from the smartphone to the AAWireless box is wireless (via WLAN)
  • Production in Europe
  • new packaging (plastic free)

  1. That would actually be a good thing, but unfortunately there is a catch. I generally listen to radio stations from Canada. Cell phone is connected with cable and Android Auto. This works perfectly, but you have to use a VPN as many channels would otherwise not be available. And no wireless connection works with VPN. This was also reported to me by AA Wireless.
So I have to keep plugging in but I will survive.
