[Display]
Surely you are all right now winter tires wound up and stowed your summer bikes somewhere in the corner! But what does somewhere mean? Tires of any kind should be stored correctly and not "somewhere" in a corner waiting to be used again. We have a few tips for you on what to look out for when you want to store your tires. In order to store a car tire correctly, the following must be observed: Tires without rims should be turned slightly after storage and stored standing up. They should also be placed on dry ground that is not contaminated with oil or the like.

With complete wheels, i.e. tires on rims, you should make sure that they are stored lying on top of each other with increased air pressure. The pressure should be 0,5 bar more. Furthermore, a rim tree can be used if necessary, which serves to stack the wheels well. It is best to store the bikes without, or at least with the bags open, otherwise in the worst case condensation water can lead to unnecessary damage. There are specific environmental conditions for all tires. A dry, dark and cool place would be ideal, almost like a wine. Storage next to a cellar window is rather unsuitable, especially if the sun shines in there.

shaky matter

For a successful storage of the currently unused tires, you also need a marking, which should be carried out on the tread before dismantling. Wax chalk is a good way to mark the wheels with eg "VR" for "front right“To be marked, because this will be used the next time it is used. (Alternatively, there are also ready-made tire labels that are simply stuck over the valve) It may also be useful to use wall hooks to attach individual tires to the wall. One advantage of storing car tires is the avoidance of damage to the sensitive areas. In addition, the service life of the wheels is increased, which allows longer use in the future.

a rim tree is often wobbly

Another positive aspect is the clarity, which can be useful the next time you change, so that all tires are in the right places. However, storage can also have disadvantages, such as transport to a workshop if you cannot find any space in your private household. In addition, storage takes up a large amount of space. To avoid the latter problem, the wheels can be stored in a workshop. This means that you can be sure that you will find an optimal place for the car parts and, if you wish, you will receive a reminder of the timely wheel change in spring or autumn. During the storage period, a number of things are checked, such as air pressure, tread depth, damage and general condition.
In order to store the tires cleanly, many workshops carry out cleaning and washing. In addition, the waiting time in spring can be shortened by checking the imbalance and, if necessary, correcting it. Storing tires at home is often associated with smeared hands and dirty clothes. You would also have to move the bikes from one place to another, which you can do by carrying or rolling. However, if this is not possible, back problems can even arise from towing. This can be prevented by storing it in the workshop.

then prefer a tire car

On the other hand, of course, the fact that storage in a workshop is associated with, sometimes horrendous, costs. In addition, you will always have an uneasy feeling when you think about the fact that the expensive complete bikes are stored far away from home in some workshop and you have no control over the way. The perfect alternative is a high-quality tire cart that is drivable and therefore mobile. On the one hand you avoid the annoying dragging and on the other hand you don't need any hooks on the wall or other homemade alternatives.

  1. Thanks for the tips on storing tires! Our friend has a car wash where he also does tire service (hot-wheels-berlin) My young timer was also washed and repaired the tires, a great job: lightning fast, beautiful! Thank you!

  2. We bought new winter tires this year. My friend actually wanted to put them in the basement in the spring. But you should probably take a more professional approach and get either a tire truck or a tire rack. Thanks for the information!
