Electric car leasing private comparison!

[Display]

Development leaps in electric cars that can still be observed at the moment, primarily the advances in the performance of traction batteries in favor of longer ranges, shorter charging times and higher power density, make the purchase of an electric car seem like an investment risk. For the owner of an electric car, this can lead to an increased depreciation of their vehicle after only a few years. The relatively high selling price of an electric car requires a large investment of equity or financing with monthly interest and repayment installments. In the case of multi-year financing, the defined remaining purchase price must be paid to the financing bank. This also applies to cases in which the agreed residual value should exceed the theoretically achievable resale price of the vehicle.

What speaks for private leasing of electric cars

The environmental bonus reimbursed by the federal government, including the innovation premium for the purchase of an electric car, is paid in the same amount for leased electric vehicles if the leasing period is more than 23 months. The bonus can only after admission of the vehicle and is reduced for vehicles with a net list price of less than 40.000 euros from 01.01.2023/6.000/4.500 from 01.01.2024 euros to 4.500 euros and from 3.000/01.01.2023/XNUMX from XNUMX euros to XNUMX euros. Hybrid vehicles will no longer be funded from January XNUMXst, XNUMX. However, e-cars will still be exempt from vehicle tax, at least for the next few years, and most insurers will grant a bonus for e-vehicles.

The risks listed above, which occur when purchasing a battery-powered electric car or a fuel cell vehicle, can be avoided through private leasing. In addition, there is no need for a relatively large amount of equity capital. The vehicle is simply returned to the lessor at the end of the leasing period with no further obligations. Alternatively, there is the option of buying the vehicle at the agreed residual value. With some leasing contracts, there is also the option of extending the leasing period by a certain period of time – for example 12 months.

How to distinguish between attractive and unattractive leasing offers

At first glance, it may seem a bit confusing to compare the attractiveness of leasing offers because the vehicles can differ significantly in their selling price. Since the introduction of the so-called leasing factor, direct comparisons between very different vehicles have become quite easy. It is a dimensionless number that is shown directly in the various offers for private leasing. If this is not the case, it may be a dubious offer. The leasing factor can be calculated with and without a special payment as follows:

Private leasing is offered with and without a special payment. For electric cars, a special payment in the amount of the state subsidy is common, because the lessee – after the vehicle has been registered – has the amount transferred to his account upon request. A special payment reduces the monthly leasing rate.

Calculation of the leasing factor without special payment: You divide the monthly rate by the gross list price and multiply the result by a factor of 100. The result is the leasing factor. In the case of private leasing with a special payment, you first divide the special payment by the term of the leasing in months and add this amount to the monthly leasing rate. The rest of the calculation is as above. You divide the newly calculated fictitious leasing rate by the gross list price and multiply the result by a factor of 100.

Examples without special payment

electric car 1 Monthly rate 220 euros gross list price 44.000 euros, resulting leasing factor 0,50
electric car 2 Monthly rate 320 euros gross list price 43.000 euros, gross list price 38.000 euros, resulting leasing factor 0,74
electric car 3 Monthly rate 390 euros resulting leasing factor 1,03

Examples with a special payment of 4.800 euros each, a 36-month leasing period and a gross list price of 48.000 euros:

electric car 1 Monthly rate 110 euros, notional rate 110 euros + 133 euros = 243 euros Leasing factor 0,51
electric car 2 Monthly rate 230 euros, notional rate 230 euros + 133 euros = 363 euros Leasing factor 0,75
electric car 3 Monthly rate 350 euros, notional rate 350 euros + 133 euros = 483 euros Leasing factor 1,03

Offers with a low leasing factor are to be rated as cheaper than offers with a higher factor. Specifically, offers with a leasing factor are:

  • of 0,5 or lower as extremely cheap
  • and those with a leasing factor of 0,75 can still be classified as very cheap
  • In the case of offers with a leasing factor well above 1,0, it may be worth looking for an alternative.

In addition to the leasing factor, the absolute amount of the leasing rate also plays a role. For example, German car manufacturers in the premium class offer private leasing at a favorable leasing factor, which nevertheless leads to high monthly leasing rates due to the high sales prices.

E-cars with favorable leasing factors

Fully electric vehicles from Toyota (bZ4X), Hyundai (IONIQ 5) and Kia (several models) are offered at leasing factors below 0,7. The cheapest absolute leasing rates per month at 145 euros to 160 euros can be achieved with Dacia (Dacia Spring), Fiat (Fiat 500e) Renault (Renault ZOE), among others. The federal environmental and innovation premium is usually required as a special payment and must be paid in advance by the lessee.

E-cars with the shortest delivery times

Difficulties due to the globalized supply chains lead to longer delivery times for some car manufacturers, so that the delivery time has become an important decision-making criterion for some interested parties. Delivery times of more than 12 to 18 months are not uncommon. Renault promises shorter delivery times of less than 6 months for its Mégane E-Tech and for the all-electric Spring from the Romanian subsidiary Spring. For some premium models such as Mercedes-Benz EQS and DS 3 Crossback E-Tense from Citroën and several Tesla models, the manufacturers try to score points with a delivery time of less than 4 months.

Are there any offers available immediately?

You can overcome the dilemma of long delivery times if you lease an e-car that is already in the yard of the provider or car dealership, i.e. that is already configured (new vehicle). It is worth filtering out relevant offers on our platform.

Special conditions for e-car leasing for people with severe disabilities

Similar to when buying a new car, people with proven severe disabilities also receive special conditions when leasing an electric car. Depending on the car manufacturer, the discount is 10 to 30 percent. The special conditions are only granted when leasing a new vehicle. Vehicles with one-day registration are excluded from the special discount. It is worth doing research with the manufacturers in question before concluding the lease.
