Tried out: Experiences with the Luba AWD 5000 GPS robot lawn mower from Mammotion!

Today we present the Luba AWD, a robotic lawnmower equipped with an RTK function. Externally, its design is reminiscent of that of a Formula 1 racing car, but lacks the rear spoiler, which allows it to maneuver effortlessly under bushes. We have also refined it a bit by giving it a camouflage-style partial wrap and two Tuningblog stickers. Otherwise it remains in its original state. A highlight of the Luba AWD is clearly the RTK system. This Real Time Kinematic System, also known as GPS, makes it possible to use the robotic lawnmower without a boundary wire. It can approach edges or walls with a precision of up to two centimetres.

The Luba AWD is equipped with numerous technical features. Particularly noteworthy are its wide tires, which ensure excellent grip. They are made of rubberized hard rubber and give the robotic lawnmower an attractive look. It also has a flexible axis that allows it to be used on rough terrain. The AWD 5000 can even master gradients of up to 75%, as the following video demonstrates. In general, a lot is explained in this video and we go to the Advantages but also the disadvantages .

Ultrasonic sensors are another feature of the robotic lawnmower. They sense his surroundings and help him avoid obstacles. The chic F1 front spoiler is not only for the look, but also as a bumper and protection. The robotic lawnmower also has a powerful battery with 9,6 ampere hours and 21,6 volts, which offers enough energy for processing large areas of up to 5.000 square meters. However, the charging station of the robotic lawnmower plays an important role and must be placed carefully. It needs direct line of sight to the sky for the RTK system to work properly. An unfavorable positioning could disturb the signal and affect the precision of the robotic lawnmower.

The Luba AWD 5000 is controlled via an APP

The associated app offers various customization options such as the working mode, the cutting height and other parameters can be set individually with the smartphone. The app also shows the progress of the mowing process and enables precise control of the robotic lawnmower. It was regularly updated during our test period and continuously improved. The Luba AWD 5000 quickly proved to be a very powerful machine. For example, it manages to mow thick grass to 15 mm, a performance that no other robotic lawnmower has achieved so far. The Luba AWD 5000 not only ran consistently reliably during our test period, it also impressed with its excellent cutting quality. His way of working impresses us overall!

In fact, the Mammotion Luba 5000 is so efficient and powerful that it can easily cover the entire property in just 3-4 hours (approx. 800 square meters with many zones, slopes and no-go zones) mastered. Every blade of grass is mown accurately and without difficulty. This leads to the fact that one is already looking for new challenges out of boredom and would prefer to have the neighbor's property mowed with them. After several weeks we found that there were no real problems with potholes and slopes, nor with tall grass that grew more than 20 cm.

In our video linked above, the main advantages and disadvantages of the robotic lawnmower are discussed in detail. At this point, however, we would like to go into one more aspect: the customer support. Unfortunately, up until May 2023, Mammotion's support was extremely disappointing. Cooperation requests from tuningblog via various channels (social media, email, etc.) were not answered and general problems, such as the lack of an invoice, were either not solved at all or only very sporadically1. We hope that Mammotion will make improvements in this area in the future. We also hope that the issue of spare parts will be resolved. All in all, we are convinced of the Luba. And that also applies to the 3000 that we HERE have tried.

  1. Jest już polski dystrybutor, company PROSAT.

  2. Do not do it ! The Luba AWD does not work if just one corner or aisle in the garden is too many. I made the mistake of buying one, Chinese company AND you can't return it / don't get your money back. After weeks of battling emails back and forth with China, this thing is now in the trash. . .

    • As you can see in the video, we've had him here for a good 4 weeks. It drives and drives and drives (knock on wood) no significant problem. Especially since our property, let's just say it, is extremely demanding. What exactly do you mean by "corner or aisle"?

      VG Tom

    • @George

I'm interested until you point out where to put it

    • Hello,
Would you like to use your machine? Seriez-vous vendeur de this épave? Les roues peuvent m'interesser.
      Kind regards.

  3. I opened a case with PayPal today to get my money back.
Delivery time 15 to 20 days they write on their homepage. I sent an email to Mammotion after 23 days and got an email back the next day with the reason I will receive a shipping email in a few days and Mammotion has such a rush that the orders are taking a long time.
The season is probably over by then!

If everything "takes" so long with them, then what if you need a spare part or support.
There is still no dealer network in Germany.

    • Did you get the money back or did they send it to the robot after all?

    • Is there anything new? Now wait 3 weeks.

    • Have practically the same experience. Ordered on 12.06.2023/27.6.2023/XNUMX. No message so far. On request (XNUMX) the answer comes: Goods are ready for dispatch. Since then no further information.
      I'm curious what will happen......

      • My husband and I ordered the Luba AWD 1000 on May 28, 23. We are very disappointed that we didn't even get an email saying that we had to expect a delay in delivery due to a possible high volume of orders. The delivery times at Mammotion are also not updated. The support hasn't responded to the request after 3 days. We are about to open a case with Paypal as well.
Maybe someone already has experience with the delivery time of the Luba 1000 and can share that.

        • I also bought on May 31st and have not received an email until today. I have not received any response to support requests either

    • The product AWD 5000 is terrific. I ordered mine on May 4th, got the message on May 6th that it would be delivered on May 9th and it did.
The marketing and sales are very much in need of improvement and the instructions for use were written by someone who has no idea what questions need to be solved. Not enough!

  4. My experiences are: I ordered the Luba5000 in May and received it after 10 days. At first it was a total experimental product, as the mowing wasn't exactly gentle (it turned on the spot at turning points, ripping up the lawn in the process). This was fixed by updates. In the meantime, the app is also working better and better after about 8 updates.
Only in May I also ordered replacement knives, which I still don't have after more than 2 months. Support tells me to wait. I will not do that. I have now given the company a deadline of 10 working days and will then cancel the entire payment (you can do this via Amex here). I can't use the Luba without a spare blade. By the way: If you have many trees, you will not be satisfied with the Luba. Why? It often loses the signal under trees, stands still for a long time and just about manages 1500 m2, although it should actually be designed for 5000 m2.
