From the beginning of May 2019, the Swedish company Solarplexius will deliver their car sunshade windows in the color gray / blue / black by popular demand and no longer in the dark brown color! And even in the middle of winter we must not forget the next summer is approaching! But even in the current season you notice that the temperatures in the vehicle rise when the sun shines, and that in the middle of winter. Darkened windows help here. Not only do they look classy, they also protect against heat and UV rays. However, not every vehicle manufacturer still offers darkened windows ex works. And when you buy a used one, they are rarely seen. And if so, then you find that the factory tint, which is usually around 30-35%, is simply not sufficient. While this is very helpful, the protection can still be improved a lot. We have had a VW T5 Multivan with factory-darkened windows for almost a year now.
The standard glazing in the VW T5 (green glass) lets in a good 70% of the heat inside the vehicle. The factory tint of the rear windows already improves this value significantly. It leaves a maximum of 30 to 40 percent of the sun's heat in the large cabin of the Multivan. But if you want to darken the rear windows, including the rear window, to reduce the penetration of heat and UV rays, the Solarplexius system is just the thing. We have reported about it several times (see below) how easy it is to install the sun protection set on vehicles with and without factory tinting. With such a large vehicle like the Multivan, however, this is also new for us. We will now show you the custom-fit system on the T5 with factory-darkened windows.
The photo shows: The interior can be clearly seen from the outside. And that with factory darkening. If you now install the solar plexius panes, you have the certainty that when you look through the panes of the T5, the cabin and the contents of the trunk remain hidden. After all, it is nobody's business whether the notebook or our camera equipment is still in one of the back seats. If the sun protection is installed, no matter how hard you try, you can only guess whether there is something on the seats. Certainly too high a risk for potential thieves. On suspicion only very few will try to open the T5 by force.
The installation is really easy (short tutorial below) and implemented by every layperson. The Solarplexius sunshades are made of approx. 2 millimeter thick Macrolon acrylic glass, can be bent easily and are easy to attach behind the vehicle trim. The dismantling of parts of the vehicle trim is not required. And that's the way it is when you want to remove the sun protection system. According to Solarplexius, the gray protective film should only be removed from the windows after installation. However, we have found here that the film is sometimes difficult to remove. In the corners there are leftovers.
That's why we have the protective film on both sides in removed from the installation. This experience can vary depending on the vehicle. It's best to try it for each slice individually. Installation is also extremely easy with the T5 Multivan. The panes are installed in about 30 minutes and the result is free of bubbles, creases or cracks. From now on, our T5 will also heat up significantly less in summer and it is also hardly possible to look into the trunk or the cabin. In addition, the occupants are of course much better protected from UV radiation (UVA and UVB).

the installation in detail - installation time approx. 20-30 minutes
The Solarplexius panes also fit perfectly on our VW T5 Multivan. The installation of the supplied plastic strips was really only necessary on the rear window. However, if the panes still have a little bit of leeway, we recommend attaching the supplied plastic strips to each pane for a better grip. Simply remove the film from the adhesive strips on the strips and fit the flat part between the pane and the paneling. The thicker part of the wedge should lie against the panel. Finished! Now the next summer can come!
In summary:
- Solarplexius sun visors are finished and tailored to the desired vehicle (in our case VW T5)
