Avoid scratches with a door edge protection at the car

On sharp edges there is a risk of injury and at the same time the risk of damaging the edge itself. Sharp spots on the car are actually only in the front of the radiator and the rear of the rear panel. But both bodies are not visible but are protected by the bumpers. For these places you certainly need no edge protection. Because when we talk about edge protection in the car, something else is in focus. Usually we think of the door edges that are painted and should receive no damage when opening.

The problem with the car door edges

Avoid scratches with a door edge protection at the car

When you step out of the car at the side of the road, you must always make sure that you do not accidentally ram the door into the side of a passer-by or cyclist, causing him to fall. But even if you in the garage or in a parking lot and get out of the car is cautioned. Although the risk of injuring a person is much lower, the collision with the wall or the neighboring car also leads to damage, both on the door edge and on the wall, on the paint of the other car or depending on where the door bangs. Almost everyone knows this scenario and it is particularly annoying, especially if another car has been affected. Of course you can rely on your diligence, but sometimes you are in a hurry and tears the car door open minded and most prudent are in most cases, only the vehicle owners themselves. Children or strangers forget the most likely the risk of knocking the car door somewhere. Children still can not judge distances and space requirements properly and sometimes the skill to open a door only partially and then to hold in position while you get out. If you often have problems with collisions or near-collisions of your car doors, it may be worthwhile to retrofit an edge guard on the doors.

Types of edge protection for the car

There are several ways to protect door edges. A particularly interesting protection method, which can also be applied to other exposed areas of your car, for example, is to coat the edge with a paint protection film. It is inconspicuous and can theoretically be self-attached. However, there is a risk of damage to the paint during installation and thus to achieve exactly the opposite of the desired effect. A professional attachment in the workshop is therefore recommended. Also, the paint protection film is only slightly resistant to violent effects, for example due to a stone wall. A particularly attractive alternative are door trims and side rails, which are mainly offered for off-road vehicles. They are glued to the edge of the door and give the car a cool black stripe that goes well with the rest of the car. Frequently, these components have also integrated a reflector at night which allows improved visibility. Another solution is a PVC strip to glue the edge. It can be black, but is also available in chrome, carbon or other surfaces. Take the best a color that fits to your door handle and the vehicle. Especially cool is one automatic door edge protection as we have already seen him on the Ford Fiesta, the Ford Focus or the Skoda Kamiq and Kodiaq. It automatically lays itself around the edge when opening the doors and thus protects against damage. However, it is very complicated to assemble and should ideally be installed by the manufacturer.

Colors and shapes are almost unlimited
