The flock tuning is a permanent one embellishment of fittings etc. This not only ensures a different look, but also brings a small plus in security, as flocked fittings do not dazzle. The history of flock technology goes back 3000 years. For once, it was not the Germans but the Chinese who invented the original form of flocking. The visual embellishment and upgrading of objects - that has always been the main idea behind flocking. Ultimately, however, it was German engineers who succeeded in developing systems that made flock technology ready for use in car tuning. The first approaches to this were carried out within the framework of mechanical flocking by electrostatics in the USA in the 1930s. The German engineers worked exclusively with DC voltage. This marked the beginning of the triumphant advance of electrostatic flocking, which still plays a major role in car tuning today. Flock manufacturers, but also adhesive suppliers, machine builders and industrial companies are involved. Everyone works closely together so that the flocking in the context of autotuning - called flock tuning - can work as you know it.
Creating better looks and increasing safety
The main task of flock tuning is to give individual elements of the vehicle, such as a dashboard or other vehicle parts, a different look. Good examples can be found in racing. There is hardly a vehicle that does not have a flocked dashboard. Special flock material is used for flocking in the area of autotuning. This is considered low-glare and is dull. In addition to the dashboard, other car parts can be flocked. The background of why faucet parts are flocked in racing is simple: they should not be reflected in the windshield. For this reason, the flocking is currently used by the dashboard but not only in the racing scene.
Procedure for flock tuning
The procedure for flock tuning is different. It depends on the starting material from which the surface is made. Depending on the type of plastic or metal, it may be that the surface must be pretreated. This means that the material may need to be sanded or sandblasted. Work is often done here but with low-pressure plasma or fluorination. It's also a question of cost here. Because the processing with low-pressure plasma or fluorination (by means of electrostatic-pneumatic flocking unit) is expensive. Here, the surface must be treated by means of a special primer, which must be carefully applied from a spray gun to the surface. Regardless of the pretreatment, a two-component adhesive is applied for flock tuning. This adhesive usually contains color pigments that dictate the color of the flock. You can actually flock everything. Whether wood, carbon, aluminum, steel or various plastics. Often sufficient for normal use is the spray flocking from the can or paint spray gun.
