People always die, so the funeral trade is a crisis-proof thing. An important tool used by an undertaker is the funeral car, which is also known colloquially. Corpses are transported with such a vehicle. In this context, the question arises whether every vehicle is suitable for a hearse. You don't need more than space for a coffin, so a large number of minivans and vans would be available. But it's not that easy.
Note burial law
Especially if you want to convert a car into a hearse, you have to pay attention to various points. Here, above all, the requirements that the legislator formulates. In this context, however, you have to know that the funeral right is a state law. Accordingly, there may be differences in the requirements for a hearse, depending on the state. Basically, corpses are only transported in such a vehicle, which is also used exclusively for this purpose. Such a car may not be used for different purposes. This is due to health protection. Finally, the body may lose fluid during transportation. But there are also requirements for the structure. So the structure must be divided, namely into the driver area and the area of the coffin. The floor of the vehicle must also be sealed so that liquids cannot run out of the vehicle. If liquids leak, they must remain in the vehicle. In such a case, the undertaker must not only inspect the vehicle, but then also clean it thoroughly in accordance with the funeral law.
Hygiene for the funeral car is very important
However, other requirements are also placed on a hearse. For example, the hearse must be easy to wash and, above all, disinfectable. The cladding must also be designed accordingly. These hygiene requirements apply to the entire vehicle and not just to the transport space where the coffin is located. There must also be a device that can be used to secure the coffin or coffin, depending on the size of the vehicle. A coffin must not move during the journey. And finally there is an optical requirement for a hearse, so the transportation must be worthy. Which rules out the fact that a coffin can simply be transported in a vehicle. As you can see from this, you have to consider a variety of points when converting. When converting a hearse, you should not only consider the requirements of the legislator, but also the applicable DIN. This also describes requirements for the technical details of a hearse. The DIN that you have to consider here is DIN 75081.
DIN 75081 / DIN 70010
DIN 75081 is also listed under 2. in the DIN (German Industry Standard) with the number 70010. It defines the funeral car and the hold that can only be used for the deceased and the associated items. But the DIN is a norm, not a regulation, not a regulation and not a law.
