So that the spark jumps - the high-performance ignition coil!

If you are looking for an improved ignition coil that not only brings standard high voltage, but also creates 40.000 to 45.000 volts, you need an improved ignition coil. A higher quality ignition coil for the engine of the car is also referred to as a high-performance ignition coil. But what should be considered when buying such an ignition coil is explained in more detail below.

higher secondary voltage

So that the spark jumps - the high-performance ignition coil!

Ignition coils act as spark inductors. The coils have a primary winding through which current flows. As a result, a magnetic field builds up in the ignition coil. The ignition coil has a second winding, which is referred to as a secondary winding. The magnetic field is transferred to the secondary winding. The primary circuit of the coil has an interrupter that is opened. A high voltage pulse is induced in the secondary circuit by opening. The high voltage pulse can be generated by the rapid collapse of the magnetic field. The high voltage generated is via the ignition cable to the spark gap of the spark plug conducted and can ignite, for example, the fuel-air mixture (gasoline engine). Various ignition coils are available commercially. The articles can have different wire cross-sections and number of turns. The resistance value also plays a role. An improved ignition coil for the car engine can generate high voltages. The items, also known as high-performance coils, are available in retail stores in qualitative versions.

Ignition coil - not every variant is designed for 12 volts

Ignition coils are not always intended for a continuous voltage of 12 volts and require a series resistor. The series resistor is bridged and as a result the ignition coil is overloaded. The overload only occurs for a short time, but it creates a higher voltage. High-performance ignition coils can build up a high secondary voltage even after the start-up phase. This leads to a "stronger / better" ignition spark.

High performance ignition coils with integrated series resistor

High-performance ignition coils for inductive ignition systems which have an integrated series resistor are commercially available. The advantage of such a system is that assembly and connection are simplified. The high-performance ignition coils are sold with different voltages. The tuning enthusiast can, for example, purchase high-performance ignition coils that are designed for 40.000 volts and can be purchased with 3.0 ohm or 1.5 ohm primary resistance. The properties of the coils are specified in detail in the product descriptions. For example, the customer can choose between oil-filled variants or epoxy-filled high-performance ignition coils. The latter are intended for extremely vibrating engines. The oil-filled coils are available, for example, in OEM black or in chic chrome. The tuner can even adapt the items to his wishes.

High-performance ignition coils for more power

If 40.000 volts is not enough for you, you can also buy high-performance ignition coils with 45.000 volts. The articles offer the possibility of maintaining larger contact distances to the spark plugs. This is interesting in order to achieve lower consumption and higher engine power. Variants with a primary resistance of 0.6 ohms are available, for example. These high-performance ignition coils can also be purchased filled with epoxy or oil. You should make sure that the desired coil is compatible with a capacitive discharge ignition system or with a PerTronix Ignitor-I ignition, of course, depending on what is used in the vehicle. The coil should also fit in the original brackets or at least bring new chrome or galvanized brackets for installation.
