Spring clips have the advantage that they can be bought en masse in online shops for little money. A pair is available for less than € 20 including shipping. The price alone says a lot! A lowering for 20 €? Can only be scrap ... The right spring clips are available for every vehicle because the construction is almost always identical to that of the car spring. The clamps do nothing but pull the coils of the spring together. Many brackets are made of stainless steel and are very robust.
Advantages and disadvantages of spring clips
In comparison to many other autotuning parts, spring clips are a cheaper alternative to lower the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle can be upgraded visually. A disadvantage is that this lowering is of course officially prohibited because the spring clips significantly affect the operation of the car spring. For this reason, spring clips are often used only for exhibition vehicles or for cars that are not on official roads. They can be lowered for a short time and there is no danger to other road users. Because unlike conventional autotuning, the vehicles are not moved.
What must be considered when lowering a vehicle?
So that you can order the appropriate spring clips, you should first check the following details:
- vehicle type
- Year
- engine type
- Level control (yes / no)
- axle load
In any case, make sure NOT to use the vehicle in traffic because you endanger not only yourself but also other road users. If the car in the STVO be moved so you do not come around approved sports springs around. These offer the advantage that the spring set for mounting a manual and a report is attached. After receiving your feathers, you should check the contents. Each vehicle must be re-measured after installation of springs similar to the installation of a chassis. When installed, the information on the springs must be read. You should always keep in mind that the amount of lowering should be in the range of maximum 40-50 mm. A wheel alignment is necessary
According to the values of the vehicle manufacturer, a wheel alignment must be carried out after the springs have been installed. The values should be adjusted as close as possible to the factory values. If there is a sports suspension for your vehicle such as AMG Sportline, M-Technik, S-Line, you have to comply with these values if the springs in something allows this lowering. Some vehicles may experience a major crash if lowered. As a result, your tire wear is much higher.
Sensors and level controls
If your vehicle has been equipped with a level control as standard, you should only use spring sets on the front axle. Rear lowering can be done by means of coupling rods. A level control should only be readjusted by a specialist workshop if the vehicle does not recognize the change itself. If your car has no level control, conventional sports springs on the rear axle are suitable. After installing your sport springs, remember to reset the sensors for the headlights if necessary.
