A special one vibration for the crankshaft helps the tuned engine run more smoothly. The damper, which is usually installed as standard, usually only contains a simple rubber compound that is only suitable for the standard engine. In contrast, a tuning vibration damper comes from the tuning area and, depending on the manufacturer, is equipped with a special GEL filling equipped, which eliminates negative vibrations, which occur in the crank mechanism throughout the entire speed range. Especially with tuned engines, where another crankshaft, Piston or pleuel are installed, the standard damper should be replaced by the modified vibration damper, otherwise the crankshaft can even break at high speeds.

The use of a tuned vibration damper also has other advantages, such as often an improved idle speed, less noise and vibration and a reduction in turbo lag during fast gear changes. There is even the possibility of increasing the performance of the engine by a few horsepower and a little torque, depending on the engine setup, by using the vibration damper. The tuning vibration damper is ultimately efficient at all speeds. However, it always depends on the engine and the changes to it/in it.

Use case for a tuning vibration damper

An example of why you should use a tuning vibration damper is when lighter connecting rods are installed. Our sample setup: internal balancing without changing the firing process. The lighter connecting rods lead to a small imbalance in the crankshaft. Normally, the standard crankshaft would now be balanced with master weights to match the new connecting rods. As a result, the total rotating mass would be less, it would be much easier to accelerate and thus turn higher. The big disadvantage: Precisely because such a system is easier to accelerate, the angle of rotation of the crankshaft is increased and the torsional load increases accordingly.

At least all this can be done with the tuning vibration damper the ausgeglich become. The stock damper is designed for a larger mass and it dampens the 'free' end of the crankshaft too much, which, as already mentioned, leads to a larger twist angle and an increase in torsional loading. This can affect engine operation and also affect the chain drive, the clutch, the DMF and the gearbox. Using a tuned shock absorber can help counteract these issues, although any changes may ultimately affect engine durability. Of course you should never forget that!
