The Land Rover Defender: unstoppable and ready for any task. Now the robust British off-road vehicle saddles up again. For the upcoming model year 2022, the Defender V8 will be launched with a superb eight-cylinder supercharged gasoline engine that transfers an impressive 386 kW (525 hp) to the traditionally four driven wheels. On the other hand, the new top-of-the-range Defender V8 Carpathian Edition rounds off the already wide range at the top - paired with a chassis set-up that is tailor-made for the ample drive power. In addition, Land Rover is donating its all-rounder, which was successfully launched on the world markets last year, the new Defender XS Edition special model, three new design packages and a further optimized Pivi Pro infotainment system including an optional new 2022-inch Touch screen.

In future, Defender customers will be spoiled for choice more than ever: The range includes the 90, 110 and Hard Top model versions, a wealth of equipment variants and options, as well as the new V8 and other modern petrol and diesel engines - plus a plug-in Hybrid with an all-electric range of around 53 kilometers. The recommended retail prices for the Defender 90 start at exactly 52.700 euros, while the Defender 110 is available from 55.600 euros. The new Defender V8 is available from 117.660 euros. The models of model year 2022 can be ordered in Germany with immediate effect and, depending on the model, available from June.

525 PS in the Land Rover Defender!

Land Rover Defender and V8: This combination looks back on a long tradition. As early as the 1970s, the Stage I V8, the first model from Solihull with the power of eight cylinders, appeared. This was followed, among other things, by V8 models for the North American market in the 1990s and, a few years ago, the powerful Defender Works V8 from the specialist forge of Land Rover Classic. Now the modern and powerful V8 supercharged gasoline engine complements the Defender's drive portfolio, which also includes highly developed diesel and gasoline units from the company's own Ingenium series as well as a particularly efficient plug-in hybrid drive.

Robust and unstoppable off-road, comfortable like never before on the road: this profile makes the youngest Defender a successful type with buyers and connoisseurs. In addition to the high demand worldwide, the youngest Defender generation has received a large number of prizes and awards since its premiere. The range of services offered by the robust Brit is now crowned with the new V8, which, with supercharger support, delivers no less than 386 kW (525 hp) to the road and track. A skilful re-tuning of the chassis and drive ensures that the generous engine power harmonises with the rest of the technology. In this way, drivers can not only enjoy the strongest and fastest Defender of all time, but also the most dynamic one.

Top variant - Defender V8 Carpathian Edition

The Defender from 2022 also reports new features in terms of equipment. The new top variant of the Defender V8 Carpathian Edition is launched: as the ultimate in design, performance and versatility within the Defender range. The XS Edition, also newly included in the range, replaces the popular First Edition of the Defender and shines with attractive solutions on the body and in the interior.

Furthermore, three new design packages open up additional space for personalizing the Defender. The Bright Pack, the expanded Bright Pack and the expanded Black Pack are celebrating their premiere - all individual solutions for a refined appearance of the unmistakable silhouette of the British 4 × 4.

Another update also benefits infotainment and connectivity. Land Rover offers additional features for the ultra-modern Pivi Pro infotainment system, including an optional large 11,4-inch touchscreen. The convenience package also includes the option of wireless charging of smartphones with integrated signal amplification as standard.

DAVID HEMMING | MANAGING PRODUCT ENGINEER AT JAGUAR LAND ROVER

“The introduction of the V8 drive enables the Defender to achieve a higher level of performance on and off the road. The Defender V8 is fast and fun to drive: It is the crowning glory of the Defender family because it impresses both off-road and on the autobahn. We have also made the Defender even more attractive with new model variants and option packages as well as optimized connectivity. More than ever, the Defender is a car for all purposes. "

Of course, the Defender's technology package has been adapted to the enormous power development of the eight-cylinder. The V8 models have been given a new set-up for the chassis and drive, which includes tailor-made spring and damper rates. In addition, an electronically active limited slip differential is new on board the Defender V8. It therefore impresses with even more precise and agile handling as well as minimal body movements - crowned by a distinctive V8 sound.

The drive source of the new Defender top model is the modern V8 supercharged gasoline engine from the Land Rover shelf, which generates an output of 5,0 kW (386 hp) and a maximum torque of 525 Nm with a displacement of 625 liters. The unit is coupled with an eight-stage automatic. With this power pack, the Defender V8 90 sprints from 5,2 to 0 km / h in just 100 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 240 km / h. The combined NEDC consumption is 12,8 liters per 100 kilometers and CO2 emissions are 290 g / km.

Outstanding off-road capability has been the Defender's trademark for decades. The new V8 variants are in no way inferior to the other models - but they add an extra dose of driving pleasure to this profile, which is not least due to the new dynamic program in the Terrain Response System. The dynamic program is reserved exclusively for the V8 variants. This gives the pilots a tool that allows them to fully exploit the dynamic potential and handling balance of the 386 kW eight-cylinder, especially on asphalt and loose surfaces. In this way, the Defender V8 not only becomes the most powerful and fastest production Defender of all time - it also delivers an enormous amount of agility, it challenges the driver and, last but not least, offers enormous driving pleasure.

IAIN GRAY | DIVISION MANAGER DRIVE TECHNOLOGY AT JAGUAR LAND ROVER

“The 5,0-liter V8 supercharged engine underlines the unique character of the Defender. It sounds fantastic and delivers an incredible amount of power - it's just fun to drive. Our technological focus when developing the new V8 version was on optimally calibrating the drive. It impresses with agility and performance on the road and at the same time offers particularly precise control off-road. All of this without compromising the all-terrain character and the wading abilities of the apparently unstoppable Defender. "

Massive stabilizers with a larger cross-section ensure that the Defender V8 hardly has any body roll even in sharp bends. The electronically active rear limited-slip differential, in turn, has yaw control, which further refines and improves the cornering behavior of the V8 model - especially when the vehicle reaches or even exceeds its limit of liability.

The new dynamic program of the Terrain Response System, which the Defender V8 takes on board as standard, has also been carefully coordinated. It gives the new top model a highly agile, responsive and almost playful light character. Features of the Dynamic program are sharper throttle response and tailor-made tuning of the continuously variable damping, while the stiffer suspension bushings benefit the directness of the steering. Add to this the system for torque vectoring by braking, an optimized traction control system and the new yaw control: you have a complete package that makes the Defender faster, more active and more manageable than ever before.

The new Defender V8 can also be identified from the outside at first glance, because it shows several elements that are reserved for this model version alone. This includes special model emblems, a quadruple exhaust system with distinctive tailpipes and 22-inch alloy wheels with a Satin Dark Gray finish. The Defender V8 also claims an exceptional position thanks to its front brake calipers in Xenon Blue and the 20-inch brake discs.

The eight-cylinder causes a sensation with its engine sound: the careful acoustic coordination of the air intake and exhaust system guarantees a sound that is as determined as it is authentic. In every driving situation, the V8 engine provides stimulating accompanying music - not least when the Dynamic program is activated in the Terrain Response System.

The Defender V8 can be painted in three exterior colors: Carpathian Gray, Yulong White and Santorini Black. In the gray and white paint alternatives, a roof in Narvik Black creates an attractive contrast. Numerous body details in Shadow Atlas round off the unique look of the V8 model.

The interior is also dominated by exclusivity: the seat covers with Windsor leather in Ebony with accents in micro-velor and Robustec fabric as well as distinctive trademarks in Ebony invite you to take a seat. The characteristic cross member of the Defender has a surface in Satin Black. There is also a four-spoke steering wheel with Alcantara cover and matt chrome-plated shift paddles, which are only available in the Defender V8. The leather covers on the airbag and gear lever as well as the illuminated door sill trims with V8 lettering are visually attractive.

The look is crowned with the semi-gloss paint protection film developed by Land Rover. This environmentally friendly and recyclable polyurethane-based film is attached to the outside of the body and gives the Defender V8 Carpathian Edition a highly topical, semi-gloss finish. In addition, it protects the paintwork from scratches in the parking garage as well as from damage in the area.

The interior corresponds to the unique body design of the Defender V8 Carpathian Edition. Here it has the Windsor leather upholstery of the V8, which is rounded off with accents in micro velor and Robustec fabric, as well as a steering wheel with Alcantara cover and illuminated door sills.

From the outside, the new XS Edition differs from the other variants in that the lower door strips and fender flares are painted in the same color as the car, as well as striking 20-inch light-alloy wheels in Satin Gray with Contrast Diamond-Turned. When it comes to paint colors, you can choose from Silicon Silver, Hakuba Silver, Gondwana Stone and Santorini Black.

The interior of the XS Edition features, among other things, 12-way electrically adjustable seats in grained leather with heating and memory function, while the typical Defender cross member has a powder-coated and brushed finish in light gray. Illuminated metal door sills ensure the right entrance.

The standard equipment of the new Defender XS Edition also includes features such as electronically controlled air suspension, the adaptive chassis Adaptive Dynamics and the configurable Terrain Response System. In addition, there are matrix LED headlights with LED signature, an interior rearview mirror with ClearSight Smart View technology as well as the ultra-modern infotainment system Pivi Pro and a Meridian sound system with ten loudspeakers.

With the new XS Edition, buyers can choose from a selection of powerful and efficient engines, for example the P400 petrol engine, the P400e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or the D250 diesel with mild hybrid technology.

FURTHER IMPROVED PIVI PRO INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM

Connectivity and infotainment have been upgraded again in the 2022 Defender. The option of wireless charging of smartphones is now part of the standard equipment in the models with the convenience package. This technology has signal amplification for optimized network reception and a strong Wi-Fi signal from the vehicle's own hotspot.

A new 11,4-inch touchscreen, which can optionally be coupled with the Pivi Pro infotainment system, also contributes to further improved entertainment, information and communication in the Defender. The slightly curved glass of the display is around 60 percent larger than the standard touchscreen. For example, information on route guidance can be displayed more clearly. Furthermore, users benefit from the well-known advantages of the particularly fast and intuitive Pivi Pro system, which starts up at lightning speed and is ready for use immediately after starting the Defender.

Another plus of Pivi Pro is its simple menu structure: the most frequently used functions are available directly on the start screen - this considerably reduces driver distraction. In addition, the infotainment system can be easily adapted to the personal wishes and requirements of Defender owners. Additional app symbols can easily be added, moved or removed again. A swipe to the right or left shows all the relevant information at a glance on the touchscreen, so that the pilot can concentrate fully on what is happening on the road.

The highly developed navigation system works with self-learning algorithms and dynamic route guidance to optimize route guidance. The intelligent voice output with Smart Voice Guidance automatically switches off audio announcements if the controller detects that the Defender is in a familiar environment. Thanks to SOTA technology (software updates "Over-The-Air"), the navigation maps are always up to date.

The navigation is intelligent and capable of learning, because it identifies routes that are used more frequently, even if these have not been entered as a route. The system uses this information, links it with current data on the traffic situation and suggests the fastest route to the preferred destination. If there is an even better route, Pivi Pro offers this alternative immediately.

DESIGN PACKAGES AND PERSONALIZATION OPTIONS

The already very wide selection of variants, equipment and options is being expanded again in the Defender of the 2022 model generation thanks to three new design packages: Bright Pack, extended Bright Pack and extended Black Pack provide buyers with further options for personalizing the robust British.

The Bright Pack, which is available for all model variants, offers a Noble Chrome finish for the front and rear apron, the radiator grille and model lettering. The expanded Bright Pack also features lower door strips and flared fenders in Ceres Silver.

The new extended Black Pack can be combined with Defender X, Defender X-Dynamic and Defender V8. Here, the front and rear apron, radiator grille strip, bonnet applications, lettering, lower door strips and flared fenders are kept in gloss black: for an appearance that is as classy as it is self-confident.

The recommended retail prices for the Defender 90 start at exactly 52.700 euros, while the Defender 110 is listed from 55.600 euros. The new Defender V8 is available from 117.600 euros.

NEW DEFENDER V8

With the new V8 variant, Land Rover presents the ultimate flagship of the Defender model range. On the one hand, the new V8 shares the extraordinary talents of the other Defender variants both off-road and on asphalt. On the other hand, the newcomer is a reminiscence of the long tradition of eight-cylinder engines from Land Rover, which dates back to the 1970s. The highly potent V8 supercharged gasoline engine of the Defender year 2022 is available as Defender 90 and Defender 110. In both alternatives, it impresses with ample performance, agility and a high degree of driver integration, without compromising the legendary Defender capabilities: like its model siblings, the Defender V8 is simply unstoppable.

DEFENDER V8 CARPATHIAN EDITION

The exclusive new top version Defender V8 Carpathian Edition shines as the non plus ultra in terms of design, performance and versatility within the Defender range. The variant can only be ordered with a paint finish in Carpathian Gray including a roof painted in the contrasting color Narvik Black. The bonnet and - as a premiere on the new Defender - the tailgate are also kept in Narvik Black. There are also special “V8 Carpathian Edition” emblems, towing eyes in Satin Black and eye-catching brake calipers in Xenon Blue.

DEFENDER XS EDITION

With the market launch of the new Defender, Land Rover launched an extensively equipped First Edition, which was very well received by customers all over the world. The successor to the First Edition will now be joined by an equally attractively equipped special edition for the 2022 model year: the new XS Edition, which is positioned above the SE equipment variant and is available as Defender 90 or 110.
