The brand new 2021 VW Golf 8 R (MK8) surprised in first tests, especially with a splendid acceleration from a standstill and a VW EA888 four-cylinder that stands extremely well in the forage. The compact one from Wolfsburg is cheered on, namely by offizielle 320 PS and 420 Nm Torque. This makes it the most powerful series-production VW Golf R in Germany of all time (the R360S MK7 was only available in Switzerland). But as always, the HGP team is of the opinion that the performance is by no means sufficient. And considering the over 750 hp predecessor (Golf 7 R 3.6 BiTurbo facelift) that is understandable too. Because as good as the 8 R may go, it is of course a comparison not. So the turbo specialist HGP already has one first expansion stage (Stage1) for the two-liter engine.

It includes a means Chiptuning adapted engine electronics included V / max cancellation, there is a changed switching program for the 7-speed DSG transmission, plus a modified one Air supply towards the air filter box and also a K&N air filter element is already made to fit. But that's not all. With an improved Suction to the turbocharger (has more throughput) as well as a necessary one oil change with Mobil 1 ™ (0W-40 ESP X3) tuning is done on the engine for the time being completed.

And the result? That brings TÜV-compliant 444 hp and 564 Nm torque on all 4 bikes. And so the 4-second mark for the sprint at country road speed should come suspiciously close. However, HGP does not provide any specific key data. A photo of the speedometer with 298 km/h but the display suggests a lot.

298 km / h in the display - already an announcement

Incidentally, the increase in performance should cost 9.800 Euros. And it is also for the 2021 models of the VW T-Roc R, Tiguan R, Passat (280 PS), Arteon (280 PS), Arteon R /, the vehicles of the Group subsidiary Audi with the SQ 2, S3, TTS, the Spanish daughter Cupra with the Ateca, Formentor, Leon and ultimately also for the Tscheschen in the form of the Skoda Superb. It will be interesting to see whether HGP will also bring out a similar "escalation level" as for the MK7.
