It may sound crazy, but while downsizing and electrification are the dominant topic in automotive engineering, presented BMW Motorrad this year the new R18, a Harley competitor with a displacement of over 1,8 liters. In motorcycle construction, electrification is not yet as advanced as in the automotive sector, but the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer recently gave up Kawasaki known to want to convert all of its models to electric drive by 2035. But even this new BMW is that Custom bike manufacturer Zillers from Russia not spectacular enough, which is why they modified the model in a breathtaking way. The result was a superlative machine that we would like to introduce to you today in more detail.
Science fiction for the streets!
At first glance, the bike may look like it was straight out of a Hollywood movie, because with its bulbous one tankthat is enormously broad Body and the ultra fat one Upside-down fork it looks more like a vehicle of the future than a machine that you can already see on the road today. Especially in the color Gunmetal, a dull shade of gray, this machine looks almost threatening. Instead of the original suspension, there is now an air suspension in the custom bike, which is why it became possible for the tuner team to use the kickstand to be omitted completely.
The air suspension was developed by Zillers himself, and enables the driver to park his machine on two tiny stands, which were attached below the body. When parked, the bike looks due to its width Rear tire terrifying, and that Taillight, which is located in the bench, intensifies this effect even more. Only those rearview mirrorthat hang down from the handlebars like bags under the eyes may not really fit the science fiction style of the R18, and from our point of view look like an emergency solution that was added afterwards in order to obtain approval.
1,8 liter displacement in the motorcycle
The air-cooled Two-cylinder boxer enginethat drives the BMW R18 and this custom bike 91 PS and a huge torque of 158 Newton meters. These are values that would not be bad at all in the automotive industry, but are the best when it comes to motorcycles. Above all, the torque of the 1,8 liter engine is impressive. Equipped in this way, the bike accelerates up to 190 kilometers per hour and is agile and sporty despite its empty weight of over 400 kg.
Our conclusion on the custom bike conversion of the BMW R18:
Zillers pulled out all the stops when it came to converting a fat BMW R18. Not much is left of the original retro cruiser design, instead the bike became a Sci-fi motorcycle first class.
