With LEGO on the race track: the ultimate LEGO Technic McLaren P1

The LEGO Group has joined forces with McLaren Automotive to create one of the biggest challenges in the LEGO Technic universe: building a “real” McLaren P1™.

What’s special? The gigantic part is made entirely of LEGO Technic elements, fully mobile and was driven by McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris around the Silverstone race track.

LEGO Technic McLaren P1™

The LEGO Technic McLaren P1™ is made of incredible 342.817 LEGO pieces and weighs about 1,2 tons. This makes it one of the most extreme projects LEGO has ever made. It is the first large LEGO model that steerable and the challenges of a real Racetrack The plastic McLaren also has a fully functional electric motor, which is powered by LEGO Technic batteries. That's pretty crazy, isn't it?

An incredible 8.344 hours

Overall, 23 specialists LEGO and McLaren were involved in the project, and the entire construction process took around 8.344h. 393 different types LEGO Technic parts were used to build the P1 as realistically as possible. From design to development, the replica is a true work of art.

And to top it all off, McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris the ultimate challenge and drove the P1 on a lap of the 5,891 km long Silverstone race trackWith his skill, he mastered the curves and made the project an unforgettable experience.

Silverstone is no coincidence

The choice of Silverstone as the setting for the event is of course no coincidence, as McLaren has a long history with the race track, which is Home of the British Motorsports applies.
