It has now been almost a month since we met on a “theoretical” basis with the TRC - That Racing Channel APP have been busy. And now it was time for a "practical" test. The background was that we had been planning for a long time to help our AUDI A3 1.8 TFSI with 160 PS & 250 NM a little bit. Perfect for testing the appIt has almost become a tradition that we support the team from Special Concepts, who also VW Phaetonours Golf or even that unfortunately already sold Cadillac CTS-V, have helped to achieve better performance. However, the current test should primarily focus on the functionality of the app and so we did without a before / after performance measurement on the test bench this time.
We did three speed tests with the app under fairly warm conditions (27 degrees Celsius):
There was the classic sprint on 100 km / h our A3 in 7,996 seconds graduated and two more. A sprint from 0 to 130 km / h in 12,283 seconds as well as an elasticity test from 80 to 120 km / h in 6,027 seconds. The values roughly coincide with those of the factory specification, especially with regard to the 160.000 kilometers the vehicle has already run. So off to Special Concepts….
The picture is only one Beispielbild Because it is not necessary to remove the engine control unit at all, since everything is done via the OBD connection of the vehicle. Including a short test drive and evaluation of all parameters, the performance increase was completed in just over an hour and with a friendly note that the performance increase was promptly entered in the vehicle documents, we left the workshop in 1 Lauter.
And again the TRC - That Racing Channel APP was used
Identical track and almost identical temperatures and again we have played through the 3 disciplines. The app certified us in doing so each Discipline an improvement in acceleration times. This becomes particularly clear when sprinting to 100 km / h because only 7,3 seconds passed here. But the sprint to 130 km / h is also over one half second improved and in the elasticity test from 80 to 120 km / h the A3 is also almost half a second more quickly.
about 30% more power
The performance of our A3 should be around 200 PS & 320 NM after chip tuning and thus a good 30% above the series. This is particularly noticeable on relaxed cruises. You almost always drive mountains a gear higher and overtaking is now felt much faster. What is particularly impressive about the TRC app is the fact that a GPS signal was always found extremely reliably and quickly and another plus point is definitely the easy understandability of the menu. Incidentally, the crazy weather and position data of the app came about due to an incorrect setting on the mobile phone 🙁 We have only found that, however to the tests.
