Easter is the right time for summer tires again. But before that you should make sure that the tires have enough profile. After all, they have a major impact on steering and braking behavior. The legislator therefore requires at least 1,6 millimeters. However, experts advise not to go below a profile of three millimeters for summer tires.
check the tire tread
However, the widespread quick test with a 1-euro coin – if the three-millimeter gold rim protrudes beyond the profile, the recommended minimum tread depth is not reached – is not particularly reliable. The wear indicators integrated in every car tire (often marked with "TWI" on the tire sidewall) also only offer an approximate orientation. Tire manufacturer YOKOHAMA therefore recommends consulting the tire dealer. In borderline cases, it is better to switch to new tires in good time, especially since even a barely legal tread depth can cause trouble with the insurance company in the event of damage. In an earlier judgment, the Itzehoe District Court assessed this circumstance in an aquaplaning accident as gross negligence.
So it is a good thing that YOKOHAMA is once again offering an attractive cash-back campaign for tires in the van, passenger car, SUV, 4×4 summer and all-season product segments. During the campaign period from March 15th to May 31st, 2022, customers in Germany and Austria save money when purchasing four new YOKOHAMA tires from a participating stationary dealer. For wheels up to and including 16 inches 15 euros, for wheels up to and including 17 inches even 25 euros. In addition, for every set of tires sold, YOKOHAMA Europe GmbH donates 5 euros to the organization www.plant-my-tree.de for tree planting campaigns.
regular care not only for the rims
The tires are also “happy” with regular care. It is best to clean the rubbers by hand with a soft brush and mild soap or washing-up liquid. If you prefer to use a high-pressure cleaner, you should keep a distance of at least 40 cm from the tires to avoid damaging them. When using tire spray, make sure that it does not get on the tread. Regular checking of the air pressure contributes to a long tire life. Values that are too low can have a negative effect on driving behavior and lead to increased wear and tear and increased fuel consumption. Electronic tire pressure monitoring systems should not be blindly relied on. Manual control is more accurate. For realistic values, it is best to do this at the beginning of a journey and when the outside temperature is up to around 20 degrees.
