Many owners of a new car or a vehicle with a repainting know them. This refers to the fear of damage to the paint by dirt or stones. Everybody drives on appropriate country roads, where the preceding car suddenly stirs up dirt. In such situations, damage such as nicks, bumps, or scratches can quickly occur, which is very annoying to the owner for several reasons. At first it looks stupid, in addition, the vehicle loses value through such damage. But there is a remedy that can calm the driver's concern about any damage. The keyword is the rockfall film.
What is a rockfall foil?
A stone chip film is characterized in that it is transparent and particularly resistant to external influences. External influences can be stone chips or scratches, but salt deposits can also cause damage to the paint over time. Just before it should protect the stone chip film by attaching to certain vehicle areas. A stone chipping film is often made of polyurethane, which is a very ductile material. As a result, the film can be optimally adapted to the body and is virtually invisible when installed correctly. In addition, high-quality stone impact films do not discolour due to weather or UV influences, so that the appearance of the vehicle is not impaired by the film even after a long time.
Since chipping films protect the paint, this is also a paint protection film. Nevertheless, there are decisive differences to a conventional paint protection film. This is often much thinner than rockfall films. Although this protects the paint from UV rays and salt deposits, it is not as effective at protecting against stone chips or scratches. Rockfall protection foils are much thicker, and are not used on the entire vehicle, but only on specific areas. So that after removal of the film but no UV-related differences to areas where no film was mounted on the paint are recognizable, rockfall protection films are always UV transparent.
These areas should be covered with a rockfall foil
The car body areas of the vehicle are the most vulnerable areas. This includes, for example, the entire engine front. Accordingly, the bonnet, bumper and the fenders would be covered with the film here. However, the film also makes sense in other areas. These include, for example, the exterior mirrors, loading sills, side skirts or the wheel arches. It is of course up to the owner to decide which areas should be covered. A rockfall protection film therefore brings several advantages. In addition, it is invisible, and thus does not change the look of the vehicle. After mounting the film, depending on the manufacturer's specification, this lasts between five and seven years.
