Porsche celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 911 Turbo – and the striking Tartan design is the focus here. The German sports car manufacturer currently has a Lifestyle Collection with tartan-style clothing and accessories that recall the origins of the Interior equipment of the athlete.
The 911 Turbo, which first came onto the market in 1974, is not only known for its Performance, but also for his very special interior design famous.
Porsche 911 Turbo Tartan
Particularly striking is the Tartan pattern, originally by Anatole Lapine, then Chief Designer at Porsche. Lapine, who was also responsible for the design of front-engined vehicles such as the 928, 924 and 944 was responsible, often wore Tartan, which eventually found their way into the cabin of the 911 Turbo.
The RSR Turbo was the first to
The first penalty that was awarded with a Tartan interior was the 911 RSR Turbo concept from 1973, which served as a preview one year before the start of production of the 911 Turbo. The Tartan pattern was then offered in the series in three variants: Black Watch (blue, green, black), McLaughlin (red, blue) and Mackenzie (beige, red, blue, white, olive green).
And a very special highlight was the 911 Turbo No. 1, which was given to Louise Piëch in 1974 for her 70th birthday. It combined a silver body with brick red leather seats and McLaughlin tartan accents, which later became the inspiration for the Porsche Design P'8478 Turbo No. 1 Sunglasses which today accounts for a whopping 530 EUR is available.
50 Years Turbo Collection
And to mark the anniversary, Porsche has now launched a new 50 Years Turbo Collection launched on the market, which classic tartan style für eine modern target group reinterpreted. The products include the Heritage Weekender 992 50Y Turbo for 490 EUR, the Collector's Cup No. 8 50Y Turbo for 32 EUR as well as a selection of T-Shirts and Jackets with matching Tartan designs.
In addition, a special anniversary model of the 911 Turbo was shown, which premiered last month in Monterey. The new 911 Turbo 50 Years Anniversary will be in a limited edition of 1.974 units, with a starting price of 261.100 US Dollars.
