Nissan has dared to launch an electric GT-R R32 created – a conversion that arouses emotions and breaks down the boundaries between tradition and the future.
A team of volunteer engineers has been working on the ambitious project since March 2023, and the result will be presented to the world at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2025.
A New Future for Godzilla
Under the hood? No biturbo inline six-cylinder engine, but a modern electric drive. The legendary RB26DETT, which once formed the heart of the R280 with its 360 hp and 32 NM of torque, has been replaced by an electric drive unit. A bold step that shows how Nissan the GT-R DNA is transferred into the era of electromobility.
Two engines in the R32 EV?
It is speculated that the electrical R32 has two motors, one on each axle, similar to the Ariya Nismo with its 435 hp and 600 Newton meters. Visually, the electric R32 remains true to the original, except for a few details: the fog lights are missing and the brake calipers glow orange. The aim of the project is to preserve the charm of the BNR32 and combine it with modern electrification to reinterpret.
No small series planned!
During R32 GT-R EV is likely to remain a one-off, Nissan is pointing the way for the future with this project. The R36, the next generation of Godzilla, will almost certainly be electric. With concepts such as the Hyper Force, which relies on 1.350 hp and solid-state batteries, Nissan is giving a taste of what's to come. Image and video credit/source: Nissan
