Forge Motorsport - VW Golf GTI Mk1 Rabbit with 1.8T Power

Today we would like to present you a project that some time ago from the tuner Forge Motorsport was completed. A dreamlike VW Golf MK1 GTi Rabbit with legendary John Players optics (Gold and black paint) as we know from Lotus F1. In addition to the tremendous appearance and the fact that it is a full-fledged mountain Cup race car, also convinced the built-in engine. Forge was of the opinion that the already 20 years old 1.8T 20V (AGU) from the former VW Passat 3B, the VW Golf MK4 or even the VW Bora fits perfectly with the MK1. And of course, the engine is anything but standard.

maximum 500 PS are possible

The most important changes are a 2,0 TFSi crankshaft, 83 mm JE pistons, Mahle Motorsport bearings, 70 mm Jenvey throttle valve, an Owen Developments GBT-5465-HTA turbocharger, a cold air box and each Countless other modifications for a tripling of the performance. Insane 450 PS (Max. 500 PS) now fall over the wheels of the MK1 driven by a Wavetrac Limited Slip Differential. Incidentally, shifting is done by means of adjustable Tilton pedals and six-speed manual gearboxes (VW O2M) with a G60 flywheel, Sachs clutch and Forge Motorsport gearshift. And a hydraulic handbrake has been installed for the perfect drift around the hairpin.

High-end motorsport inside and out

The completely stripped body with carbon parts got a Pikes Peak body kit from HR engineering with a typically huge front spoiler, flared fenders and large side skirts for a huge look. But not only the large aerodynamic parts are made of carbon, the doors are also made of real Kevlar carbon fiber fabric. The same applies to the screw-on diffuser as well as the scoop, the rear wing, the exterior mirrors and even the tailgate. All of this means that the MK1 only weighs an insane 740 kg when ready to drive. Of course, it goes without saying that the chassis has to be set up to be suitable for racing.

three-piece GTB alloy wheels by Rotiform

Therefore Forge built three-piece Rotiform wheels GTB type with polished rim and star in "Tequila Sunset" in the dimensions 9 x 15 inches. They are equipped with Toyo Proxes R888 tires in 225 / 45 and sit thanks to KW Competition 2A racing suspension (Compression and rebound independently adjustable), in a design for mountain races, consistently in the wheel arch. Through the small spaces between the rims you can also see a changed brake system and here the tuner installed an in-house six-piston system with 280 mm discs and the rear axle got a Golf 2 brake system with Tarox discs and sports brake pads. The Racetech thermometer sticker on the front saddles has its right to exist in tough mountain races.

COBRA sports seats and racing belts for a secure fit

And inside? Here, too, everything has been consistently converted to motorsport. There is a roll cage including side protection from "Custom Cages", a speedometer from Race Technology, two Cobra bucket seats with racing goods and other typical racing details such as Makrolohn side windows, etc. If we receive more information about changes that have not been mentioned before, there will of course be more information as always an update for this report. It is best if you subscribe to our feed and if there is anything new you will be informed immediately. We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures and videos. (Photos: NWVT Photography)
