BMW Motorsport with more involvement in sim racing!

BMW Motorsport is putting its sim racing commitment on an even broader basis in the coming year. In addition to various BMW SIM Cup racing formats, the focus is on new partnerships with four top teams and the establishment of a "BMW Motorsport SIM Academy". There are also plans to set up a “BMW SIM World Tour”, which will begin in 2021 with a road show in Austria. Even more virtual BMW racing cars will be available on the most important sim racing platforms, and the development of innovative sim racing hardware with BMW Motorsport know-how will be systematically continued. The aim is to involve the sim racing community as an equal partner in all programs and to continue the upswing that virtual racing has experienced in esports in 2020.

Cooperations with four sim racing teams

“We have experienced unbelievable dynamics in sim racing over the past few months,” says Rudolf Dittrich, Head of BMW Motorsport SIM Racing. “We at BMW Motorsport have learned a lot this year and are determined to implement these lessons with a view to our 2021 program. In the area of hardware development, technological innovations and new developments will continue to be the focus in the coming year. Our BMW SIM Cups will also play an important role again, but in an adapted form. As part of our cooperation with four of the best sim racing teams in the world as well as with our new academy, we implement our resolution to advance sim racing as part of the community in mutual dialogue. Together we will continue to fuel the growth of this exciting esports segment. The BMW Motorsport SIM Racing Program offers the ideal basis for this. "

The successful cup formats from last season on various sim racing platforms will be continued and expanded in 2021. The best Sim racers in the world can continue to compete in the BMW SIM GT Cup in the virtual BMW M8 GTE on the iRacing platform. In the course of the year, the BMW M4 GT3 will also be used, the virtual version of which is currently being implemented in parallel to the real development of iRacing. The BMW SIM M2 CS Racing Cup also offers spectacular racing action once again. However, no longer exclusively on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, but in the framework program of the GT Pro Series on rFactor 2 on various racetracks. The BMW SIM Time Attack by Assetto Corsa Competizione is new to the range. The drivers hunt for times in monthly competitions with the BMW M4 GT4. All participants are pursuing the same goal: to take part in the BMW SIM Live Event, which will again provide the stage for the grand finale of all BMW SIM Cups in 2021.

The partnerships with four of the world's best sim racing teams underline that BMW Motorsport also competes in esports with great ambition and the determination to celebrate victories. Team Redline, Williams Esports, G2 Esports and BS + COMPETITION will send BMW vehicles into the race and represent BMW Motorsport at many top-class sim racing events on the most important platforms in 2021. Each team brings specific strengths and different priorities to the partnership. Team Redline can look back on a unique success story in sim racing and is one of the contenders for victory in every race in which a Redline vehicle starts. The Williams Esports Team is very broadly positioned in sim racing, regularly involved in the battle for victories and titles on many different platforms - and with the Formula 1 team of the same name behind them. BS + COMPETITION has a wide range of so-called "hybrid racers" who are successful in both real and virtual racing. BMW and G2 Esports are already working together successfully in other areas of esports. This cooperation is now being expanded to include sim racing. The focus of G2 Esports Sim Racing is on operations in the simulation Assetto Corsa Competizione.

BMW Motorsport SIM Academy.

With the establishment of its own academy, sim racing is also getting a physical home at BMW Motorsport. In the “Home of BMW Motorsport SIM Racing”, both ambitious and inexperienced sim racers have the opportunity to access the extensive range of BMW Motorsport racing expertise and training options as part of training courses. This begins with coaching by professional sim racers from the BMW Motorsport SIM Racing partner teams and extends to mental training, which the BMW factory drivers have been doing regularly for many years in order to optimize their concentration in races. The BMW Motorsport SIM Academy coaching sessions take place online via stream and - as soon as possible - in personal training. The academy is currently under construction. Further details on this program will be announced in the course of the first half of 2021.

BMW SIM World Tour.

The BMW SIM World Tour is also new for 2021. If the pandemic situation permits, it should begin in April 2021 with the start of an innovative roadshow through Austria under the motto “From Showroom to Racetrack”. On mobile BMW racing simulators, customers and interested parties have the opportunity for an immersive motorsport experience with the prospect of attractive prizes and participation in the state finals. A total of 40 event days throughout Austria are planned for the pilot project. The virtual elimination races are driven with the entry-level model offered by BMW M Customer Sports - the BMW M2 CS Racing.
