The motorhome industry is booming and there is no end in sight. According to the Caravaning Industry Association (CIVD), there were 2021 new registrations in 81.420 alone, which means that this number has more than doubled in the last four years. However, the driving behavior of the mostly one-to-one commercial vehicle base is not always ideal for camping use. Because classic transporter chassis are designed for heavily fluctuating loading conditions. Mobile homes, on the other hand, are never really empty due to the heavy built-in components, but tend to be just below the permissible total weight. A lack of travel comfort, poor stability when cornering or annoying driving noises make the journey there not exactly a pleasure. You arrive at your destination correspondingly exhausted and stressed. But it would be much better if a relaxed holiday feeling set in as soon as you set off! The shock absorber experts at BILSTEIN have therefore decided to develop a tailor-made product line for mobile homes around the high-performance B2022 shock absorber with the addition "Camper" from 6. For many, the innovative product could become a real game changer. All product information can also be found at camper.bilstein.com.
Premiere in the mobile home market
The first to benefit from the significant increase in damping force compared to the standard damper is the Fiat Ducato (from 2006 onwards), which forms the basis for well over half of all motorhomes in Europe. All identical Citroën and Peugeot vehicles are also taken into account. The B6 camper configuration was initially tested in the particularly popular panel van segment. Young families in particular appreciate these inexpensive vehicles, which are responsible for around half of all new motorhome registrations in Germany. The new shock absorber is also available for semi-integrated vehicles. BILSTEIN has carried out special driving tests for this purpose in order to guarantee optimal handling here as well. Further applications will follow successively. There will also be a variant with automatic damping force adjustment based on a purely mechanical process. This shock absorber adjusts its characteristics independently through vibration feedback from the road. Motorhome owners can therefore soon look forward to another attractive camping product from BILSTEIN.
The BILSTEIN B6 camper in detail!
"Caravan owners have long been able to upgrade their towing vehicle with our improved BILSTEIN B6 standard replacement shock absorber, which we also recommend to all other drivers due to its greater damping power," explains Rainer Popiol, head of the BILSTEIN Academy training organization: "But for the first time we can now also offer a special product for Offer motorhomes.” The registration-free B6 Camper combines a whole range of advantages: These include increased safety in crosswinds and in curves thanks to optimum traction and a more intensive driving experience thanks to high traction and precise handling. At the same time, campers can look forward to a more comfortable driving experience: The reduction in driving noise through better damping contributes to this, as does the increase in comfort through the optimized rolling behavior on cobblestones and at level crossings.
The successful setup is due to the fact that the BILSTEIN B6 Camper high-performance shock absorber is not an easy carry-over product. Each vehicle application is individually coordinated on a demanding course in the BILSTEIN driving test in "ATP automotive testing papenburg". This time-consuming process is also the reason why the product roll-out is staggered. Step by step, BILSTEIN is testing, tuning and launching other vehicle applications for the B6 Camper. But only when the demanding test engineers are completely satisfied.
Of course, that wasn't the end of it!
