Audi has finally brought the RS6 Avant of the current C8 series to the USA. Sales have just started and to celebrate the arrival of the high-performance station wagon Audi America the so-called "RS Tribute Edition" hung up. And if you are familiar with the RS history, the paintwork immediately reveals what the purpose of the strictly limited Pampersbomber is. It is supposed to be a reminder of the legendary Audi RS2 Avant sports station wagon with a 315 hp five-cylinder engine from the cooperation between Audi and Porsche based on the Audi 80 Avant of the type B4 / 8C. It came on the market in 1994 and was the most powerful and fastest production Audi ever built until the S6 Plus was released in April 1996. The RS2 laid the foundation for the success story of RS vehicles a good quarter of a century ago. And as a homage to the potent classic, there is the tribute edition!

And with just 25 copies, the RS6 Avant as the “RS Tribute edition” is particularly rare. It has unique design elements that are based on the legendary RS2 Avant. The 2021 RS6 Avant "RS Tribute edition" has a beautiful paint finish in Nogaro blue, pearl effect with black visual accents on the striking RS radiator grille, on the rear diffuser and there is even a black roof rail. The rear-view mirrors are painted in the vehicle color. The well-known 22-inch cast aluminum rims in a 5-V-spoke trapezoidal design rotate in the wheel arches and the mighty steel brake calipers of the RS brake system are painted in bright red, just like on the RS2 from back then.

And in the cabin, too, a few subtle details create an RS2 feeling. The interior has inlays in a carbon structure and there are successful contrasting seams in denim blue. They should skilfully highlight the exclusive Audi Valcona S Sport seats, the perforated steering wheel, the RS floor mats and the leather components on the dashboard above and below. Even the lower seat panels are covered with leather and denim blue contrasting stitching. Incidentally, the RS Tribute Edition has the driver assistance package with Audi adaptive cruise assist and Audi side assist as standard. There is also the Executive package with heated seats in the rear and the optional head-up display and electrically damped doors are also included. With the Bang & Olufsen® 3D Advanced Sound System, the extensive equipment is perfectly rounded off.

However, nothing changes in the performance of the limited edition, that is to say, the RS6 Avant as RS Tribute Edition has the well-known 4,0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque under the hood. It catapults the Avant from 3,5 to 0 km / h in just 100 seconds, making it almost 2 seconds faster than the RS2. And due to the standard sports exhaust system, the Tribute Edition also sounds at least as good as the in-line five-cylinder turbo engine (engine code ADU) from the RS2. The 2021 RS 6 Avant as the "RS Tribute edition" can be bought from 136.800 US dollars (approx. 114.400 euros) in the USA, which seems pretty cheap. After all, a “normal” RS 6 Avant already costs 116.000 euros in this country. If we receive timely information on further details about the series, there will of course be an update for this report.
