Soon with 600 PS: BMW confirms the iX M60 Stromer!

Two model variants are available for the market launch of the BMW iX. Both have electric all-wheel drive with a system output of 385 kW / 523 hp in the BMW iX xDrive50 and 240 kW / 326 hp in the BMW iX xDrive40. The efficiency of its drive technology and the latest battery cell technology enable ranges of up to 630 kilometers in the BMW iX xDrive50 and up to 425 kilometers in the BMW iX xDrive40 to be determined in the WLTP test cycle. At a later date, the model range will be expanded to include the BMW iX M60, which, with a maximum output of more than 440 kW / 600 hp, ensures particularly sporty performance when driving purely on electric power. Perfectly balanced driving characteristics.

The body structure, construction principle and chassis tuning of the BMW iX are designed to combine superior driving comfort with sporty handling characteristics. The aluminum spaceframe concept and the carbon cage with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the roof, side and rear areas form an intelligent material mix that combines increased rigidity with optimized weight. Efficiency and range also benefit from the optimized aerodynamic properties that make the BMW iX a C.W-Value of 0,25 help. The high-voltage battery located deep in the underbody lowers the vehicle's center of gravity and promotes agile driving behavior as well as the balanced axle load distribution. The perfectly balanced driving characteristics make the BMW iX appear solid and comfortable as well as agile and light-footed.

The standard chassis technology of the BMW iX includes a double wishbone front axle, a five-link rear axle, stroke-dependent shock absorbers and an electric steering with Servotronic function and variable ratio. Two-axle air suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, integral active steering and a sports brake system are optionally available. 20-inch alloy wheels are also part of the standard equipment. Alternatively, Air Performance wheels are available in sizes 21 and 22 inches. They can be fitted with noise-reduced tires, on the inside of which a foam layer optimizes acoustic comfort.

Electric all-wheel drive and wheel slip limitation close to the actuator.

The electric all-wheel drive of the BMW iX ensures ideally dosed transmission of drive torque to the front and rear wheels in every driving situation. Its intelligent control enables fully variable power transmission from pure, highly efficient rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive regulated for maximum traction.

The actuator-related wheel slip limitation, used for the first time in conjunction with all-wheel drive, ensures additional optimization of traction and driving stability. The system integrated in the motor control guarantees particularly fast and precise control interventions. In this way, even under adverse weather and road conditions, a confident forward thrust is always ensured. The BMW iX xDrive50 sprints from zero to 4,6 km / h in 100 seconds. The BMW iX xDrive40 can accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 6,1 seconds.

Highly integrated and efficient drive technology.

The fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology used in the BMW iX comprises a drive unit in which the electric motor, power electronics and transmission are combined in a common housing. Both the power density and the efficiency benefit from this highly integrated electrical drive topology. In addition, the installation space in the area of ​​the front and rear axles is used particularly efficiently.

The two motors of the BMW iX work on the principle of an energized synchronous machine. Instead of permanently installed permanent magnets, the excitation of the rotor is triggered by the precisely metered supply of electrical energy. The engines provide their maximum torque immediately from a standstill and over a particularly wide speed range. The maximum system torque is 630 Nm in the BMW iX xDrive40 and even 765 Nm in the BMW iX xDrive50.

Adaptive and individually adjustable recuperation.

Adaptive recuperation makes an additional contribution to increasing the efficiency and range of the BMW iX. The intelligent networking of the drive control makes it possible to match the intensity of the recovery of energy in overrun and braking phases to the traffic situation determined with the help of navigation data and the sensors of the driver assistance systems. For example, when approaching an intersection, the recuperation power can be increased and, at the same time, energy can be fed into the high-voltage battery and the deceleration effect can be used. On the other hand, the coasting function can also be activated on the open road, with which the BMW iX rolls along without drive torque as soon as the accelerator pedal is released.

Adaptive recuperation is the standard setting in gear D. Alternatively, the driver can select high, medium or low braking energy recovery for all traffic situations in the BMW iDrive menu. In gear B, the high recuperation power is automatically activated, which also creates the characteristic one-pedal feeling. Regardless of the selected speed level, information about the energy flow can be shown on the control display. The Efficiency Trainer provides information on particularly economical driving, with the range horizon the influence of the driving style on the state of charge of the high-voltage battery can be understood.

High-voltage battery with the latest battery cell technology.

The fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology also includes a high-voltage battery with the latest battery cell technology. Its volumetric energy density at cell level is around 40 percent higher than in the high-voltage battery of the BMW i3 from model year 2020. The BMW iX xDrive50 has a high-voltage battery with a net energy content of 105,2 kWh (gross energy content: 111,5 kWh) amounts to. The Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the BMW iX was designed for particularly flexible charging. Direct current can be charged with an output of up to 200 kW (BMW iX xDrive50) or up to 150 kW (BMW iX xDrive40). The battery charge level in the BMW iX xDrive50 can be increased from 35 to 40 percent in around 31 minutes and in the BMW iX xDrive10 in around 80 minutes. In addition, the range can be increased by up to 10 kilometers (BMW iX xDrive10) or more than 150 kilometers (BMW iX xDrive50) within 95 minutes at a direct current fast charging station and with a battery charge level of 40 percent. The scope of delivery of the BMW iX in Europe includes the BMW Charging Card, the Flexible Fast Charger for up to 11 kW charging power and a Mode 3 charging cable for the use of public charging stations. With a special tariff system, BMW Charging enables particularly low-cost electricity to be obtained from public charging stations and high power charging stations.

Premiere for the new generation of the BMW iDrive operating system.

The new generation of the display and operating system iDrive, used for the first time in the BMW iX, expands the interaction between driver and vehicle into a natural dialogue. It is based on the new BMW Operating System 8 and was designed with a clear focus on the touch function of the new BMW Curved Display and communication via voice with the extensively enhanced BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The BMW Curved Display forms a fully digital display network consisting of a 12,3-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14,9 inches behind a shared glass surface that is curved towards the driver. The digital personal assistant has additional capabilities and now makes contact with the occupants in the form of a new graphic design.

The new My Modes expand the options for selecting vehicle settings and thus create a comprehensive driving experience. The remote software upgrades and the option to purchase vehicle functions retrospectively in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store via Functions on Demand and to install them over-the-air keep the vehicle software “always fresh”. Navigation with the cloud-based system BMW Maps and Augmented Reality Video on the control display ensures fast and precise route planning and perfect orientation in the traffic situation. The BMW iX is also a pioneer in data transmission with the 5G mobile communications standard and in integrating personal mobile communications accounts into the vehicle with the help of Personal eSIM.

Great variety of driver assistance systems.

The new modular technology of the BMW iX offers considerable potential for the consistent further development of automated driving and parking functions - in the medium term with functionality at level 3. A new generation of sensors, a new software stack and a high-performance computing platform ensure exceptional intelligence. Five cameras, five radar and twelve ultrasonic sensors are used to monitor the area around the vehicle.

The BMW iX has the most extensive standard equipment in the field of driver assistance systems ever used in a BMW model and numerous innovations. For the first time, the front collision warning includes oncoming traffic when turning left and cyclists and pedestrians when turning right. The availability of the optional steering and lane guidance assistant has been significantly increased. The optional Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function offers an optimized situational distance setting. New in the offer are the exit warning, which indicates cyclists and pedestrians in the vicinity of the vehicle before the doors are opened, and the Remote Theft Recorder. The standard equipment of the BMW iX also includes Parking Assistant, including a reversing camera and reversing assistant.

Exterior design with clear signals for progressive luxury, a generous feel-good atmosphere in the interior.

The pioneering character of the BMW iX is also clearly expressed in its exterior design. The clear, reduced design language, the monolithically designed vehicle body with powerful SAV proportions and precisely designed details signal progressive luxury. One of the highlights of the exterior is the almost completely closed BMW kidney grille. Camera and radar sensors are integrated into its surface, which is manufactured using innovative processes.

The BMW iX was consistently designed from the inside out. Its interior is designed as an individual place for quality of life and wellbeing. Generous space and newly developed seats with integrated headrests characterize the luxurious ambience. The elimination of the center tunnel creates additional legroom as well as space for storage and a center console designed in the style of a high-quality piece of furniture. The control panel with feeler bars and active haptics as well as a rocker switch for gear selection sets particularly modern accents. In addition to the BMW Curved Display, the hexagonal steering wheel and the frameless integrated projector of the optional head-up display also contribute to the concentrated driving experience. There are three interior worlds to choose from for customization.

The automatic air conditioning in the BMW iX includes a nanofiber particle filter for air purification and a new type of control via the touch display. Ventilation as well as surface, seat and steering wheel heating are intelligently combined with one another to ensure maximum well-being. The optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with speakers invisibly integrated into the headrests and a 4D audio function through bass shakers in the seats for the driver and front passenger create a sound experience of the highest level.

In addition to acoustic pedestrian protection, the BMW iX also offers a model-specific drive sound that contributes to an emotionally charged driving experience with authentic feedback on load requirements and speed. The BMW IconicSounds Electric function also enables the integration of new sound variants from a cooperation with the film music composer Hans Zimmer as standard.

Production in the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing with 100 percent green electricity, controlled raw material extraction, high proportion of natural and recycled materials.

The BMW iX is produced at the BMW Group's Dingolfing plant. 100 percent green electricity is used for vehicle production as well as for the manufacture of battery cells. The amount of cobalt and lithium required for the high-voltage batteries is procured by the BMW Group from controlled sources in Australia and Morocco and delivered to the manufacturers of the battery cells. The construction principle of the electric motors makes it possible to dispense with the use of rare earth metals in the rotors of the drives. The company also purchases aluminum, which is produced using electricity from solar energy systems.

A high proportion of secondary aluminum and recycled plastic also contribute to the resource-saving production of the BMW iX. FSC-certified wood, leather tanned with olive tree leaf extract and other natural materials are used in the interior. Recycled fishing nets, among other things, serve as the raw material for floor coverings and floor mats.
