Mobility forms a basis for independence and independence in life. It defines quality of life and ensures social contacts. That is why it is one of the central needs in our society. In particular, people with physical disabilities are dependent on the availability of suitable means of transport so that they can participate in professional and social life. Transport options for people with limited mobility are an important issue for Mercedes-Benz Vans, be it through suitable driving aids ex works or appropriate expansion measures in cooperation with our partners.
eVito Tourer with conversion
In the course of the social transformation to locally emission-free drives, people with reduced mobility or driving services who offer appropriate transport options are also facing the growing challenge of converting their fleets to electric drives. The fully electric Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer is now available in its extra-long design as a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. In cooperation with the long-term van partner AMF-Bruns GmbH & Co. KG from Apen in Lower Saxony, a vehicle conversion with a rear cutout and access ramp was carried out, which enables comfortable and safe transport of wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. The vehicle is available in the two-invoice shop.

Andreas Böger, Head of Sales New Vehicles Mercedes-Benz Transporter and Vans Germany: "Especially in urban areas, locally emission-free vehicles are also gaining in importance for people with restricted mobility. Our eVito Tourer offers the ideal basis for diverse and flexible possibilities of passenger transport with the extension of the comfortable and safe transport of wheelchair users. I am pleased that, in cooperation with our proven partner AMF-Bruns, we can now offer a solution for the first time, which will certainly meet with great interest in numerous areas of wheelchair-accessible passenger transport."
Gerit Bruns, Managing Director AMF-Bruns GmbH & Co. KG: "Passengers who are transported in a wheelchair are exposed to particular hazards and must be secured accordingly. In addition to crash-tested personal and wheelchair restraint systems, we also offer a special head and backrest for tailor-made protection. Nevertheless, a pleasant driving experience should of course also be maintained. With our built-in solutions, we therefore pay attention not only to safety, but also to sufficient space and comfort for the passengers transported and easy operation. With the eVito from Mercedes-Benz Vans, we have an excellent basis for our conversion in terms of sustainable and urban mobility for everyone."
Variable expansion with generous space and ease of use
The generously dimensioned rear cut-out with a clearance height of approx. 1.500 mm, as well as the built-in, non-slip ramp enable easy and barrier-free access to the vehicle interior. The EASYFLEX ramp is particularly easy to use and, alternatively, can be quickly converted into a loading area. With the help of a person and wheelchair restraint system, the wheelchair is attached to the vehicle floor and the person to be transported is secured. Extra long e-belts ensure the front wheelchair attachment. The vehicle can also be equipped with the FUTURESAFE head and backrest.
A lowered floor pan ensures a generous amount of space in the passenger compartment with a DIN-compliant interior height of approx. 1.450 mm in the rear wheelchair area. With the two-seater front passenger seat installed, there is space for five people plus the driver in the front area. Optional swivel and folding seats in the second row allow flexible use of the vehicle for up to seven people, provided that a wheelchair is not being carried.
The vehicle is not only suitable for transport services that promote the locally emission-free transport of people with limited mobility. The taxi industry can also use these vehicles to tap new customer groups and thus contribute to the mobility of this population group. In some federal states, for example in Berlin and the state of Brandenburg, taxi companies receive a reimbursement for the conversion to a so-called "inclusion taxi".
