Lightweight Performance "LW BMW M135i" Hot Hatch!

In 2019 BMW launched the new 1 Series with the model name F40. The Hot Hatch, which appears completely new in many technical and optical aspects, has a larger interior and more valuable surfaces. However, there were not only positive comments for the top model, the M135i with its B48 four-cylinder engine. The previous model, the M140i with the sensational B58 three-liter six-cylinder engine, raised the bar and expectations very, very high. The more the company LIGHTWEIGHT from Sinn-Fleisbach, known for BMW optimizations and fast lap times, became aware of the 1 Series with the /// M lettering:

Lightweight LW M135

Almost as if there had been a call for help and the lightweight team from beautiful Hesse had heard it. Due to the fact that a customer had bought the former M2 Competition company car directly from the farm, the Misano blue 1 series, which had already been configured by the dealer, was purchased and subjected to a thorough inventory in the in-house master workshop. The LIGHTWEIGHT aerodynamic package consists of a carbon front spoiler, carbon rear spoiler, the LIGHTWEIGHT Gurney Flap made of carbon, and a LIGHTWEIGHT carbon rear apron insert, optionally for the LIGHTWEIGHT 2-pipe exhaust system or the optionally available LIGHTWEIGHT 4-pipe exhaust system.

And that's where we come to the topic Klang: It is clear that the four-cylinder cannot hold a candle to a six-cylinder. Since one of the core competencies of LIGHTWEIGHT is the construction of its own exhaust systems, it should also be clear that we are not talking about a problem, but a challenge! And challenges bring solutions: The carbon tailpipes in 4 × 89 mm trumpet pithily and blow to the attack. The 1 Series now rightly bears the traditional M logo! Parallel to the subject of design and sound, the subject of driving dynamics was of course at the top of the to-do list of the fast Hessians. In the first step, a set of springs was developed with cooperation partner Eibach, which lowers the vehicle by 20 mm. After the development, this was quickly exchanged for a Pro Street Multi chassis, which had to endure a tough development and tuning program in normal driving / racetrack operations.

The high-gloss black 20 inch rims with a width of 8,5 inches and a tire size of 235/30 R20 all round look very good on the 1 Series! The selected tire, a Hankook S1 Evo, from the tire manufacturer who meanwhile also serves as original equipment manufacturer for BMW vehicles such as the 7 Series and for the limited MINI special model "GP", delivers very good handling and braking power in wet and dry conditions. Since LIGHTWEIGHT is very familiar with the BMW parts catalog, they came across a position called "Camber correction bearings". Apparently an unknown article that was ordered and analyzed directly. These are OEM components that are exchanged 1: 1 for the series parts in order to drive significantly more camber on the front axle.

LW M135 with 1: 38,76 min at the Sachsenring

With the LIGHTWEIGHT setup described above, you drove a lap time of 1: 38,76 minutes at the Sachsenring, which only deviates by a hundredth from an M140i xDrive and is almost 2,5 seconds faster than a basic M135i F40. And the LIGHTWEIGHT team is very sure that the times can still be improved, since without the increase in performance you can take part in the comparison test in the AutoBidSportscars has started. The increase in performance developed and coordinated on the all-wheel-drive test bench built in 2020 was not yet approved by the TÜV. Accordingly, it was not used in the comparison test either. Here one speaks of fairness and would like to point out that all parts meet the highest quality standards and that corresponding reports are being received for the product portfolio.

"our fast is faster than yours fast"

Regardless of whether you decide for the new 1 Series or its predecessor - the LIGHTWEIGHT philosophy "our fast is faster than yours fast“Is not just a slogan! We do not currently have any more details about the Lightweight LW BMW M135i F40.
