Mercedes-Benz Vito: perfect for the US vanlife scene!

The brand with the star is breaking new ground in the US market with the mid-size van Vito, where it is positioning it for the first time as a base vehicle for motorhome conversions. The Vito bears the name Metris in the USA and has been adapted to local market and customer requirements. For example, it only drives up as a petrol engine. Driverge Vehicle Innovations is one of the first US manufacturers in the motorhome segment to rely on the Vito and, in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, is launching the Metris Getaway. The campervan is now on sale.

The trend is towards campervans!

Mercedes-Benz Vito: perfect for the US vanlife scene!

"Vanlife is very popular around the world - also in its country of origin, the USA. The trend is increasingly going back to campervans that are just as suitable for travel as they are for everyday use“, Said Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Sales & Marketing. "In addition to our Sprinter large van, we would like to increasingly meet this demand in the USA with our compact midsize van Vito. That is why we work with motorhome manufacturers such as Driverge and offer them the Vito as a base vehicle for their bodies and extensions. Practiced in Europe for some time, this positioning is a novelty for us in the USA."

About the Mercedes-Benz Vito!

Mercedes-Benz Vito: perfect for the US vanlife scene!

The Vito has been on the market in the USA and Canada since 2015 and is sold there under the name Metris. With its compact external dimensions, its performance, reliability and its well thought-out safety and assistance systems, it is the ideal basis for campervans. In addition to its efficient four-cylinder petrol engine, the US version of the Vito impresses with maintenance intervals of up to 24.000 km and a permissible tensile load of around 2.250 kg. There are also a large number of safety and assistance systems, including ATTENTION ASSIST® and the ECO start / stop function. The Crosswind Assist stabilizes the vehicle and ensures safety in strong gusts of wind. At the same time, the load-adaptive dynamic traction control ESP actively intervenes in the power transmission of the engine and brakes individual wheels or reduces the transmitted torque in order to stabilize the vehicle when the wheels spin.

About the Metris Getaway

The Metris Getaway, based on the Mercedes-Benz Vito, was equipped with the following camping features as standard by Driverge:

  • Additional battery
  • Pop-up roof with sleeping area
  • Multifunctional rear bench seat that can be folded out into a bed
  • When folded, this bench can be moved along a rail, which provides storage space as required
  • Swiveling front seats transform the campervan into a lounge in no time at all

If you want even more “camping flair”, the Metris Getaway can optionally be equipped with an awning, fly screen for the sliding doors, as well as the tailgate and a rear tent. Roof racks can also be mounted to transport surfboards or other sports equipment. The highlight is a kitchen solution - a pull-out kitchen can be ordered for the rear of the campervan - and solar panels for as much self-sufficiency as possible. There are also around 200 selectable foils in different colors. If we receive more details in a timely manner, there will of course be an update for this report.
