Final steps - Mercedes-AMG Project ONE final phase!

Affalterbach. The development of the hypercar Mercedes-AMG Project ONE (internal designation R50) is entering a new phase and is thus getting closer and closer to series production: Several pre-series vehicles are now doing their fast laps at the Group's own testing and technology center in Immendingen. Most of the testing leaves the test benches and is increasingly shifting to test tracks. For the first time, those responsible for the project also released the full output of more than 735 kW (1.000 PS) of the extensively electrified and highly complex hybrid drive unit for driving trials. In addition to the dynamic test program and the fine-tuning of drivability, active aerodynamics also represent a further development focus.

The complex interplay of the numerous active components, such as the louvers in the front fenders or the large rear wing, now also confirms its effectiveness outside the wind tunnel, in order to enable the extraordinary lateral dynamics. The goal of using Project ONE to achieve a new dimension of driving dynamics and performance for a road vehicle and thus also to set a milestone in automotive history is thus getting closer for Mercedes-AMG. The adaptation of a complete Formula 1 drive unit for a street legal hypercar, which, in addition to its impressive driving dynamics, also has to manage everyday operation smoothly and can drive purely electrically, was an immense challenge.

completely new functions & properties

In many areas, such as noise behavior, the development team has broken completely new ground with this project and, with a great deal of persistence and a high level of engineering, has found series-ready solutions. Parallel to the extensive dynamic tests with the project vehicles, the development of this unique hybrid vehicle from Mercedes-AMG is also continuing at the Affalterbach location. The various vehicle systems are put through their paces on the engine test benches and our own simulator. The next step in the extensive test and development program has already been defined: The performance of Project ONE will soon also be tested on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife. If we get the first information about the official premiere, there will of course be an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
