Porsche 968 L'ART: retro look transported into the modern age!

The connection between vehicles and fashion - this is what the Parisian fashion label “L'Art De L'Automobile” stands for. Its founder, Arthur Kar, has now fulfilled a lifelong dream in collaboration with Porsche: a specially redesigned Porsche 968. The Artcar bears the name "968 L'ART" and embodies Arthur Kar's claim to transfer the perception of art to the automotive world . In keeping with this, the vehicle is celebrating its premiere at the time of Paris Fashion Week in the French capital. It is on display in the Marais district from September 30 to October 3, 2021 as part of an artistic installation.

Unique design in the exterior and interior

With great attention to detail, “18 L'ART” was worked on in a Parisian workshop over a period of 968 months. It was no coincidence that the Porsche 968 served as the basis for the Artcar. The everyday sports car is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The style of the vehicle also goes perfectly with that of the streetwear fashion label.

The design of the fully functional Artcar is based on the retro look of the early 1990s and at the same time transports this into the modern age. The roof of the vehicle has been removed so that it is now a roadster. Arthur Kar and his team developed the special shade of green themselves. Another feature of the vehicle is the rear, which is inspired by the classic Porsche Speedster rear. The taillights have been completely redesigned and are characterized by the "KAR" lettering, which was also seen on L'Art sunglasses.

Porsche partners TAG Heuer, Recaro and Bose support the redesign of the interior with specially designed products. This includes the TAG Heuer stopwatch in the dashboard, which was jointly created as a one-off. The project partners also adapted the RECARO bucket seats and covered them with a unique leather from ECCO Leather EL3. Bose provided a tailor-made audio system that is only available in this form in the 968 L'ART, including an innovative placement of the speakers and an elegant slat design.

"L'Art De L'Automobile" - the connection between two worlds

Arthur Kar discovered his passion for sports cars early on, especially those made by Porsche. Born in Beirut and raised in Paris, he spent a lot of time in his father's auto repair shop as a child. At the age of 16, he began working as a mechatronics technician in a French Porsche center, soon focusing on iconic sports cars.

In order to fulfill his dream of having his own Porsche, Kar finally took the plunge into self-employment and sold vehicles that he had prepared to customers all over the world. This is how he was able to call a Carrera GT his possession at a young age. In 2017 he finally founded the fashion label “L'Art De L'Automobile”, combining his passion for sporty streetwear fashion with that for the automotive world.

"The love for Porsche unites many people around the world - it is still a special feeling for us too when we can help someone like Arthur Kar to make an extraordinary dream come true. I hope that the result of our collaboration inspires many fans around the world." Robert Ader, Head of Marketing at Porsche AG

On the occasion of “968 L'ART”, the label is launching two different fashion collections in collaboration with Porsche. The first is produced by L'Art De L'Automobile. It is available on the sidelines of the artistic installation in Paris' Marais district during Paris Fashion Week (35/37 Rue des Francs Bourgeois, 75003 Paris). In addition, the collection will be available in selected shops and online from September 30, 2021. A special feature is an exclusive fragrance dispenser for the car, which was created in cooperation with the cosmetics brand Byredo. The second collection consists of six parts and is produced by Porsche. It will be available from mid-October in selected Porsche Centers and online.

For a number of years now, Porsche has been implementing "Artcars" in collaboration with partners from the lifestyle and art world. The creative freedom of the makers is comparatively great. At the same time, Porsche makes sure that the partners share their own values and authentically fit the brand. Conspicuous examples from the recent past are Taycan Artcars in Switzerland and Singapore as well as the Porsche 911 by the South African artist Nelson Makamo.
