Second evolutionary stage of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 presented!

The Audi R8 LMS is one of the most successful GT83 racing cars ever, with 106 drivers' titles won worldwide and 3 other racing championship victories. To ensure that it stays that way, Audi is presenting the evo II construction stage. The revised mid-engine sports car is tailored even more specifically to the needs of private customer teams, but the additional price is still moderate. “The new evolutionary stage meets the needs of our customers even more,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing.

“Most of the innovations reflect the wishes that the teams made of us.” Audi Sport has optimized the R8 LMS in the five areas of aerodynamics, engine characteristics, air conditioning, chassis and traction control. Audi Sport is ideally positioned in a global GT3 competitive environment of up to ten brands. At the end of the testing of the model, Audi Sport customer racing will contest the first races in 2021. At a price of 429.000 euros (plus VAT), customers then receive a racing car whose characteristics are even better suited to amateur racing. In terms of aerodynamics, the Audi R8 LMS is less sensitive, as a larger part of its downforce is now generated with the new rear wing instead of the underbody. The engine has a new intake system with a better torque curve.

The chassis is optimized for the first time by four-way adjustable dampers. The traction control allows further setting options with new functionalities. Finally, the interior air conditioning improves comfort. The result is better concentration and more constant lap times, especially over longer distances and at higher outside temperatures. The teams can order the new technology package for the 2022 season as a complete vehicle or an upgrade kit for retrofitting existing models. The new racing car will be on display in the paddock for the first time at the Spa 24 Hours.
