Unique - 2004 Shelby Cobra Concept with V10 power!

Have you ever dated Shelby Cobra Concept (Project Daisy) heard? Ford presented the classic at the Detroit Auto Show in 2004 based on the then Ford GT. Back then, Ford engineers borrowed the chassis and suspension from the Ford GT shelf, but the 3,94 meter long and 1,91 meter wide Shelby Cobra was anything but a copy. The focus of the vehicle was on absolute minimalism and so the concept study, which is optically based on the original Cobra by Caroll Shelby, was clearly structured in both the interior and the exterior and without unnecessary experiments. The puristic two-seater came without a roof or side window, but there was a massive radiator grille, striking side air intakes and powerful fenders all around. The wheel arches house chic 18 inchers with 275/40 tires at the front and ultra-wide 345/35 tires at the rear.

5,4 liter V8 versus V10 power

And of course the performance was very important. At that time you could still use the topic as you wanted E-drive was (fortunately) completely strange. And so they did not install the well-known 550 PS & 774 NM strong 5,4 liter V8 mid-engine with compressor on the Ford GT, but installed a 605 PS ten-cylinder with a mighty 6,4-liter displacement. It balanced a maximum torque of 680 Nm at 5,500 rpm. on the crankshaft and was installed as a front engine in the concept car.

The powerful engine was coupled to a six-speed manual transmission and the power sent a thick cardan shaft exclusively to the 345 rear wheels. The top speed was an impressive 340 km / h and the Shelby study should enable the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in under 4 seconds. And as mentioned, there was not only pure minimalism on the outside, but also on the inside.

All superfluous equipment Chichi was thrown out and so the study concentrated on a few blue splashes of color such as on the three-spoke sports steering wheel or the leather-lined bucket seats. In addition, only aluminum adorned the cabin. The dashboard received large switches and a clear number of instruments in the style of the classic racing cars of that time, but these were blessed with a rather futuristic design for the conditions at the time. Even nowadays, the faucet is to be regarded as "spacey" as we think. Unfortunately, the Cobra Roadster study never went into series production. A limited small series was actually planned. PS: Ford designed and built the Shelby Cobra concept in just five months under the direction of Manfred Rumpel. Have fun with the following video. Here the Shelby Cobra Concept shows what the V10 can create for a breathtaking soundscape. By the way, at the end of the post there is a huge picture show.
