Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team has unveiled the new look of its Yaris WRC, with which the team will compete in the coming season in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The paintwork is similar to that of the new GR010 Hybrid with which Toyota Gazoo Racing competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The Gazoo Racing lettering, which can be found on both competition vehicles, illustrates the strong connection between racing and road cars - such as the GR Yaris, which was developed with numerous insights gained in the WRC.
Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris WRC
New look, tried and tested vehicle: This is how the team will compete in the new season in the World Rally Championship before new technical regulations are introduced for the championship in 2022. The tires are new this year, as Pirelli is the only tire supplier for the top categories of the WRC from this season onwards. So far, Toyota Gazoo Racing has won 17 World Rally Championship victories with the Yaris WRC, winning more than a third of the events the team has participated in; 322 stage wins were achieved. After the manufacturers 'title in 2018, Toyota Gazoo Racing won the drivers' championship in 2019 and 2020 with the Yaris WRC. Further championship titles are to follow in the 2021 season. To this end, the team will continue to work on optimizing the Yaris WRC until the start of the season at the Monte Carlo Rally from January 21 to 24, which will be continued throughout the year.
Driver crews remain unchanged
The three driver crews of the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team remain unchanged this year. After their seventh world title in 2020, Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia will defend their title. Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin, who finished second overall after a strong season, also want to play at the top in the fight for the WRC crown. For Kalle Rovanperä and his co-driver Jonne Halttunen, it's about building on their promising rookie season, in which they finished fifth in the championship.
