The Willys-Overland Motor Company, renamed in 1912, was formed when John North Willys bought out the Overland Automobile Company in 1908. Willys-Overland Motors was an American manufacturer of vehicles using the brand names Willys, Aero-Willys, Overland and Jeep. From 1912 to 1918, the previous company was even the second-largest automobile manufacturer in the USA, but only operated as Willys-Overland Motors since 1936, and it was also significantly smaller. For example, Willys built the Jeep M38 for the US Army and continued the Jeep CJ series. In 1953 the company was bought by Kaiser Motors and changed the company name to the Willys Motor Company. Officially, the activity as Willys-Overland Motors ended in 1953.
