Mighty power for the racetrack: 2021 Ducati Panigale V4!

Year after year the Panigale V4 is updated to be faster and more exciting for both the amateur and professional driver on the racetrack. In 2021, the Panigale V4 and V4 S models will meet the Euro 5 standard, with the maximum power and torque values remaining unchanged. In order to meet the new European standard for pollutant emissions, various optimizations were made to the exhaust system and the engine set-up of the Desmosedici Stradale engine. The electronics package of the Panigale V4 has also been further developed and now includes the latest generation of Ducati Traction Control (DTC), which now works with even more foresight; The DTC EVO 3 with a functionality derived from Ducati Corse. Thanks to the permanent monitoring of the angular acceleration of the crankshaft and the rear wheel, the system prevents the rear wheel from spinning in the middle of the curve if you are in the maximum lean angle and open the gas again. This leads to a smoother driving behavior when exiting a curve, which gives the driver a better feeling.

special riding mode "Race"

The division of the riding modes is also new; Especially the riding mode "Race" has now been divided into two mappings, the individual parameters of which can be freely compared with one another. In this way, the driver can quickly and easily test two different configurations in order to find the best setup for the respective route and his driving style. The Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S models are also equipped with new self-bleeding brake and clutch pumps, derived from those that were first used in the Superleggera V4. The housing of the new pumps was equipped with a special construction that enables independent venting so that no intervention in the system is necessary in the event of air in the circuit. The new pumps for the brake system and the clutch can also be recognized by the elegant, tinted expansion tanks.

the 2021 updates of the Panigale V4

One of the features added to the bike for 2021 is the chain fin, an important safety feature to avoid dangerous injuries from the chain or sprocket in the event of a fall. For those who move the motorcycle all year round, there are now also heated grips, while the ignition key gets a new, more modern and elegant key housing.

MOTOR

Desmosedici Stradale Euro 5
The Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S models for the 2021 model year meet the Euro 5 standard, with the maximum power and torque values remaining unchanged. In order to meet the new European norm for pollutant emissions, some improvements have been made to the exhaust system and the tuning of the Desmosedici Stradale.

While the muffler remains the same in appearance, it uses larger catalytic converters (+10mm in length) and a new technology for impregnating precious metals, which is essential to maximize the conversion of harmful gases into harmless ones.

The lengths and diameters of the manifolds of the two rear cylinders have been optimized in order to minimize the "light off" (light-off temperature) of the catalytic converter, while the engine performance remains unchanged. Compared to the Euro 4 models, the exhaust manifolds in the rear bank have been shortened by 100 mm and their diameter has been reduced from 42 to 38 mm. The new component also introduces a more compact rear heat protection integrated into the fairing.

The introduction of 4 lambda sensors, one for each cylinder, allows for more refined control of the amount of fuel injected and helps to reduce emissions.

In addition to the changes listed above, an adapted characteristic of the Variable Intake System (VIS) is used, which controls the stroke of the variable intake funnels.

ELECTRONICS

Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 3
The Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S 2021 are equipped with a further development of the Ducati Traction Control, which is characterized by an improved functionality derived from the Ducati Corse. The DTC EVO 3 intervenes when the throttle valve is opened at the apex and ensures that the Desmosedici Stradale works as gently as possible when accelerating. The torque output by the motor is modulated in such a way that torque peaks are compensated for, and accordingly accelerating out of the curve is easier and more predictable.

This new DTC is part of a continuous drive to improve lap times through electronic interventions that make driving more intuitive, less tiring and more effective. Ultimately, the assistance system increases both the fun factor and the driver's performance on the racetrack.

When accelerating out of the curve, when the gas is applied again, it can normally happen that an undesired and unexpected slip occurs on the rear wheel during load change, which is due to a jerky acceleration of the crankshaft.

The new software adjusts the output torque in advance by modulating the angular acceleration of the crankshaft in order to make the load change smoother. This results in a more neutral behavior when leaving the curve and a better feeling for the driver. The new function is active in all DTC levels. Levels 1 to 4 are provided for dry tracks, level 7 for wet tracks and rain tires.

RIDING MODES

New Ducati Riding Mode layout
The Panigale V4 2021 has a new division of the riding modes, which allows the rider to compare two different configurations on the track in order to get the best set-up. The “Race” riding mode was divided into two mappings for use on the racetrack (“Race A” and “Race B”), which can now be freely compared in their individual parameters, and the existing “Sport” and “Street” riding modes " complete.

The Riding Modes allow you to choose between four different preset profiles to give the Panigale V4 exactly the driving behavior that perfectly suits the driver, the route and the external circumstances. Each Riding Mode is programmed in such a way that the character of the engine, the parameters of the electronics and, in the "S" version, the setting of the chassis can be changed immediately. Of course, the driver has the option of setting up his own profile and then restoring the parameters preset by Ducati.

Riding mode "Race A" - “Race A” in its standard configuration was developed for experienced riders who want to enjoy the full potential of the motorcycle on the racetrack. By selecting "Race A", the driver can call up the full engine power, while the throttle valve reacts very directly to the inputs via the ride by wire. The "Race A" mode contains an electronic setting that aims to achieve maximum performance on the racetrack with flat asphalt and high grip, without reducing the level of safety, with the ABS only intervening on the front wheel to enable maximum braking power . The curve ABS function always remains active. The settings of the DES system in the "S" version have a clear focus on drivability in the acceleration and braking phases in order to ensure maximum stability and precision even during the most forced maneuvers.

Riding mode "Race B" - If the riding mode "Race B" is selected, the rider can count on the entire engine power, but with a reduced torque output in the first three gears compared to "Race A" in order to make the motorcycle more controllable during long sessions or on To score points on racetracks that focus more on cornering speed than on strong acceleration. The electronic control is designed so that even less experienced pilots can display an effective and spectacular driving style. The settings of the DES system guarantee driving safety and a high level of grip even on bumpy or slippery roads.

Riding mode "Sport" - With the selection of "Sport", the driver receives 214 hp with a direct, sporty ride by wire throttle response and, with the S version, a sporty suspension set-up. The electronics allow even less experienced drivers effective, exciting handling. In sport mode, for example, the Slide by Brake function is activated so that the driver can safely drift into bends. The rear wheel lift detection when braking is switched on and the cornering ABS is configured in such a way that it maximizes cornering performance.

Riding mode "Street" - Riding Mode Street is recommended when the Panigale V4 is being driven on country roads. As in Riding Mode Sport, this mode offers the rider 214 hp and a progressive ride by wire characteristic; With the Panigale V4 S, the mode has a suspension set-up that is well suited for bumpy or uneven roads. The electronics settings provide grip and stability to maximize road safety.
