A bit sharpened - the 2021 KTM 890 Duke is here!

All the attributes of the LC790c in-line 8-cylinder installed in the KTM 2 DUKE, which made the competition green with envy and cast a spell over both young and experienced drivers, have been refined for the new model. The reactions to the original by THE SCALPEL drove KTM to keep looking at the LC8c and to bring something onto the market that extreme riders cannot resist. So at the beginning of 2020 the KTM 890 DUKE R was presented: a razor-sharp weapon for the racetrack and winding country roads with all the power of the LC8c and some features that literally invited ambitious riders to seek contact with the asphalt with their knees. In the tire tracks of the KTM 890 DUKE R now follows the KTM 890 DUKE and packs all the excellent attributes of its sister in a powerful package for the road.

2021 KTM 890 Duke

The look of the KTM 890 DUKE is guaranteed to attract everyone's attention and leaves no doubt about its power and torque. Nevertheless, the compact, light, pulsating power pack that is located between the two wheels is the real heart of the bike. With a displacement that has grown from 789 to 889 cm3 and now 115 hp and 92 Nm (10 and 5 more than the the KTM 790 DUKE) and rotating masses that are 20% higher, guarantee improved stability in curves and smoother engine running at low speeds and half throttle. In addition, the engine is Euro 5 compatible and with 4,8 l / 100 km from its 14 l tank, it is not only fast, but also exemplary in terms of economy.

Although its horsepower is always in the starting blocks, the KTM 890 DUKE can also be carefully controlled and thus ensures a big grin for all ages and riders of all levels. The KTM 890 DUKE only fits into the 'middle class' in terms of its concept, its maneuverability and its handling: its performance and state-of-the-art electronics easily play a weight class higher.

optional TRACK driving mode

On its customizable TFT display, you can choose between the driving modes RAIN (smooth throttle response, maximum traction control, reduced power and anti-wheelie), STREET (standard throttle response, TC normal, full power, anti-wheelie) and SPORT (sporty throttle response, TC withdrawn, full power, anti-wheelie). If you want to use the full potential of the KTM 890 DUKE, you can freely adjust the settings using the optional TRACK driving mode and go on the hunt for lap records. The traction control can be adjusted in nine stages, the anti-wheelie mode deactivated and the throttle response adjusted in three stages. The launch control automatically maintains the ideal speed for lightning-fast starts. Thanks to a 6-D sensor, the control unit is supplied with a wealth of information on the behavior and position of the bike in order to provide optimal feedback.

Two floating 300 mm brake discs, which are surrounded by improved brake calipers and new pads, work in conjunction with the ABS cornering system for brutal deceleration. To further improve propulsion, a shortened shift lever, lighter springs and a newly tuned Quickshifter + (optional) are used.

KTM 890 DUKE with cast aluminum rear frame

The cast aluminum rear frame of the KTM 890 DUKE, together with its chrome-molybdenum steel frame, guarantees sporty feedback and extremely precise handling. And here, too, the LC8c motor plays an important role as a supporting part. Despite the technical 'growth' of the KTM 890 DUKE, it has not gained a gram of weight compared to its predecessor and still weighs a slim 169 kg (dry). The innovative, simple, minimalist and light rear frame houses the air inlet and the air filter box. Thanks to its updated and improved WP APEX suspension (43 mm upside-down fork with open cartridge technology) and gas pressure shock absorbers at the rear, the KTM 890 DUKE hovers over the asphalt. In terms of ergonomics, the KTM 890 DUKE - unlike its 'R' sister - is aimed at a broader target group and therefore offers a lower seat height of 820 mm.

The fact that the KTM 890 DUKE belongs to the DUKE family is unmistakable. Its lines, in which every centimeter of the bike fulfills a function, is 'typically KTM'. There are no unnecessary edges, angles or parts and no trim parts that are not conducive to the performance and the unique feeling of the KTM 890 DUKE. For example, the compact rear light is integrated into the license plate holder, which reduces the dimensions and creates the potential for personalization at the rear.

Furthermore, the KTM 890 DUKE can be personalized with various KTM PowerParts (from Akrapovič slip-on rear silencers to chain sprocket covers) and riders cut a fine figure with clothing from the KTM PowerWear collection.

Adriaan Sinke, Head of Product Management at KTM: "With the KTM 890 DUKE R, we have launched a bike that embodies everything that makes KTM such a great brand. It was only a matter of time before we could turn this package into the perfect second generation THE SCALPEL. We found out where we could improve the KTM 790 DUKE or offer the rider even more value. The KTM 890 DUKE is crammed full of KTM DNA: READY TO RACE, technically sophisticated and developed to meet the needs of every rider.
